Hello everyone!
Me and my sister-in-law are making a Spotify playlist and trying to put 1 song from each country in the world. I’m starting with european countries (aside from the ones I already knew), and would really appreciate your help!
**What are we looking for?**
Preferably a song not in English, and that really captures the feeling of your country’s music.
As you can see, I already knew a norwegian song – [Helvegen – Wadrduna](https://open.spotify.com/track/1bqmaIBGwlo4MtrAxjRDHB?si=daeee01dbdeb4d79). But I’d like to know what your choice for the song is, and I’ll change it.
Also, I invite everyone to list my country (Brazil) song! I’m the one who chose it, it’s called [Águas de Março – Tom Jobim](https://open.spotify.com/track/1y7OxO5i6sfrHXAmUM77YG?si=4895e1f47e00497a)
**What countries are already in the playlist?**
So far we have:
* Brazil
* Finland
* Sweden
* Faroe Islands*
* Germany*
* Japan*
* Mexico*
* Norway*
* Pakistan*
* Portugal*
* San marino*
(ps. The ones with * we put there before starting asking here on reddit, and will probably change once we ask the proper community.)
Thank you and we hope you can contribute to this project 🙂
Here is the link to the playlist: [Spotify – All around the world](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7n4kZc0adGRwSm0Jf7UFlG?si=037fdb29d15a4e01)
Edit: Added /u/fredspipa suggestion: Kaizers Orchestra – Hjerteknuser. Thank you guys!

Nu er jeg dansk, ikke norsk, men hvis ingen nævner Kaizer’s Orchestra er enhver liste I disker op med ikke komplet.
Jokke & Valentinerne – Her kommer vintern
**Kaizers Orchestra – Hjerteknuser**
It’s not that I especially love this song, but it’s often heralded as Norway’s greatest band (also IMO) while it’s hard to appreciate for anyone that doesn’t understand Norwegian. They’re fantastic at using our language in a clever way, great lyrics. This is also by far their most popular song. My second suggestion that came to mind was already mentioned (“Her kommer vintern”), I just feel Kaizers is more unique and original.
~~edit: I see that you’ve written “preferably in English”, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for any of the other songs you’ve chosen either, so…~~
There is plenty to choose from…
I’ll go with: “Øl” by Jokke & Valentinerne

Of course knowing the genre you are looking for might give a different result.
Here’s your answer!:
“Odd Nordstoga – Kveldssong for deg og meg”
Enjoy! 😉
I think Stjernestøv by Aurora is a lovely folk song, it captures the feeling of Norway in quite a different way to other comments I’ve seen though. I love Aurora’s music so much so maybe I’m biased
Karpe – Her
Tir n’a noir by Vamp is really beautiful.

Noen å hate – Raga Rockers
Dum Dum Boys – Englefjes
DDE – Vinsjan på kaia, or preferably – Her bli det liv
Could also possibly have something of Bjørn Eidsvåg, like “Eg Ser” or something.
Or “The Cabin” from Ylvis. This is in English, however it is the most Norwegian song I know about. Really catches the “cabin-culture” here in Norway.
Hello from the 90s…
Hellbillies – Ei krasafaren steinbu
deLillos – Kokken Tor/Tøff i pyjamas?
Seigmen – Metropolis
Norway otherwise (..ignoring A-ha for a moment) has, and has had, a huge world-wide presence in two other different directions in music that is a bit unexpected, perhaps: Jazz on the one hand (Reiersrud, Molvær.. his guitarist, Aarset.. Garbarek has been huge outside of Norway). And in more moderrn mixing/sid-chip retro electronica, plus and minus analogue noise, etc. So although neither screams Norway, there’s an astonishing amount of chiptune and soundtrack type of artists, remix-type of studios, as well as jazz-artists (Aarseth being a pioneer in using digital loops live, things like that) from Norway. Who really all are more influential and in a sense more famous than any of the pop-bands or classical ditty-bands.
Kaizers Orchestra – Hjerteknuser
For Portugal I would add “verdes anos” by Carlos paredes, “povo que lavas no rio” by Amália Rodrigues, “grândola vila morena” by Zeca Afonso or “gente da minha terra” by Mariza. The song you have there is not at all representative of Portugal nor have I ever heard about that artist (not that that should matter), but if you want music that is relevant to the people, to the country, then mine are better suggestions:)
* Stjernesludd by DumDum Boys
* Tir n’a noir by Vamp
* Lause ting by Odd Nordstoga
* En solskinnsdag by Postgirobygget
* Se ilden lyse by Sissel Kyrkjebø
* Skyfri himmel by Bjørn Eidsvåg
[DeLilos Neste Sommer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDOtkHXE8_Q)
Milf og pils. Its a song on the commentary of current Norwegian society. It brings up a lot of hot-button issues. I’d recommend it.
Idyll av Postgirobygget
CC Cowboys – Kom igjen
Valkyrien Allstars – Å gjev du batt meg
Rune Rudberg – Ut mot havet
Jahn Teigen – Optimist
Bobbysocks – La det swinge
Ole Paus – Mitt lille land (there are many good versions of this song)
Lars Kilevold – Livet er for kjipt
Til ungdommen
I would say
Mitt lille land by Ole Paus because I think the lyrics describes Norway in a beautiful way

If you want music that describes Norway. Hall of the mountain king by Edvard Grieg

Erik Bye – Skomværsvalsen
Fremmed rase – Råne
„Up North“ from Borknagar
NordNorsk julesalme by Trygve Hoff
Har du fyr – Hekla stålstrenga (song about a beacon of light being home.
In direct words its about all the lighthouses that have shown sailors and fishermen, being sometimes lost at sea in bad weather the way home to safety for hundreds of years. And its an euphemism about a light that will always pull you home to your family). In my opinion it captures much of what is Norway, the sea has always been important to Norway as a way of transport, but also economical. But it has also been a place where many people have perished or lost to bad weather.
Se ilden lyse – Sissel Kyrkebø.
You are all wrong.
Bent Fabricius Bjerre – Norwegian sunset / Reodors ballade
Please keep Helvegen! I love that song and it’s very Norwegian, from the language to instruments to the music video. And it’s beautiful.
Gir gass – Bøbben og Yogi
[Åge – 4 pils og en pizza](https://youtu.be/GaILaOexgmQ)
Darkthrone – A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Anything from the band Hellbillies
Høre tell på jorda – Halvdan Sivertsen
Mods – Tore Tang.
Is basically the Norwegian anthem whenever abroad.
Helvegen is a really good piece, I’d go with it
