‘We both work but can’t afford the family rent’

  1. I hope someone points out they have legal protection against raising the rent during a tenancy agreement.

  2. My problem with articles like this is the type of people they choose to use for examples, the one here is confusing because as they state they earn too much to be allowed social housing, Bristol Council says if you earn over 40k you’re not eligible for social housing, now if they’re earning over 40k, that would put them in the top 40-30% of earners, now yes it’s very sad that they can’t afford their rent but, obviously enough people below their wages can afford it or are finding accommodation that’s cheaper.

  3. In an age of declining population growth and having to import workers from abroad I would think it in the nation’s best interests to support a family with 4 kids instead of leaving them to fend on their own and possibly be homeless.

  4. I work full time for minimum wage, and can’t afford to live on my own. I couldn’t afford to rent privately, and because I’m not a ‘priority case’, I can’t get any help from the government. This shit fucking sucks!

  5. Maybe they should look where two wages and the benefits they get for their kids goes, I find it extremely hard to believe that two wages leaves them struggling, especially if they aren’t eligible for social housing due to income

  6. I’m the same I earn a good living but because of the Tory scum we all suffer and they get rich pedos bastards

  7. Can some of you show some empathy? Yes others have it worse, yes 4 kids are expensive but we should be blaming the god awful system not one random woman.

  8. A few observations from a landlord that currently rents to asylum seekers and previously to students.

First off trying to claim the house needs renovation and using that as an excuse to jack the rent means your a shit landlord.

You do jobs as the come up you don’t have a huge hit on your finances. Also repairs are part of the business you can’t expect not to do them. I allow a months rent per year.

Next these guys have been in there 10 years and never missed payment? You are going to kick them out to get a few hundred more a month? Again your not that smart.

For me the single worst outcome is zero rent. The bank still want their money regardless. If you have a decent tenant the first order of business is to make sure they stay.

We can assume ownership of that building is minimum 10 years? In that time we have seen record low interest rates if you have failed to take money off the loan your an idiot. If you have been buying remortgage buy remortgage then you are stacking the cards higher every time.

Sure you have 30 houses but you actually own next to nothing and one or two can bring the whole lot down.

In short who ever owns this house is a poor business person bordering on idiotic imo.

  9. They earn over 40k a year and are struggling? I find that hard to believe, they should look at their spending habits and see where their money is going.
