Could Gerry Hutch come out of this as another good Republican. A bit like Sean Quinn as there’s no fucking way Hutch could carry out the robberies he did without throwing a few bob to the cause. They also mentioned Pearse McCauley in the conversations and it seemed like both men where talking about somebody they knew personally. It ties in with McCauley and his wife been guests of the Monks during a boxing event and McCauley looking after one of the young Hutches in Castlerea.
Now McCauleys ex wife is a SF TD, a lovely woman and a great representative but it’s poses some questions.
To play devil’s advocate here there are two allegations
Namely
1) MLM received funds from the Hutch Gang.
2) MLM used the Hutch gang for votes
As far as (1) is concerned, it should be easily proved one way or the other. Either they gave her money directly or they didn’t.
Now for (2), are we really giving credibility to the theory here that Gerry Hutch controls people’s votes? Last time I voted the ballots were held in privacy in polling booths. Fairly sure it’s not a Tammany Hall/Gangs of New York situation where he was rounding the masses up and making them vote SF multiple times. Do we really think Hutch has the power to tell large swathes of the north side how they’re voting?
It seems to me like a load of shite if I’m being honest.
Gangsters are not known for their honesty or their penchant for modesty or playing things down.
Seems the press are happy to pray them as crooks/liars when everything else is concerned but beacons of virtue when they say something that could harm MLM.

It was a bugged conversation with neither of them knowing they were being listened in on. Why would they randomly make up something completely untrue that the other would know was false? You need to go through some serious mental gymnastics to say there’s nothing to see here.

Be interesting to see if she opens up her and her husband’s bank accounts an official investigation. Shane Ross’ questions over how she financed her house and holiday homes seem fairly prescient now. It seems unlikely he was tipped off but i suppose you never know, Dublin is pretty small.
Micheál Martin’s comments to her in the Dáil about not knowing who was an informer in her own party (or somesuch) is also pretty interesting to consider now tbh.
Up in Derry there are stories of minibuses rocking up in some areas on election day and leading people out with their paperwork to vote. Would it be possible the “help with votes” was something similar in Dublin? The only other thing I can think of is a mutual laundering arrangement but that would be high risk and Hutch wouldn’t want the party leadership anywhere near him in public. Is it most plausible to think there has been a donation or some contribution in the past that squared a beef with or purchased a territory from an IRA member?

The leader of the opposition party in the Dáil has publicly contradicted evidence given in a high-profile trial involving gangland criminals.
Doesn’t exactly happen every day in Irish politics.

Realistically she’d have no way of knowing. How would she know if donations were coming in from the Hutches unless she was specifically told or one of the Hutches handed her the money themselves? She’d definitely have no way of knowing about votes.
She seems genuinely rattled by this. That makes me think she didn’t see it coming. It came out of the blue.
Dowdall was under oath and given the size of the case against the Hutches, there’d definitely be a trail, so he’d be caught if he was lying. More importantly, he’s only out of prison because he turned ‘states evidence’. If he’s caught lying even once, his deal disappears and he gets shanked in prison.
This is also the reason Mary Lou had to say something about it. It’s all going to come out in the court case.
So, I don’t doubt it’s true, but I don’t think Mary Lou knew anything about it.

Quite recently I apologised to some old friends because I had tried to defend the Irish Times as being a fair and balanced publication for quite some time , but the evidence is startling and unquestionable, they are deliberately trying to blacken a leader of the one of the largest parties. Notice how much the other two parties are standing back, they ordered these articles, this is their work.

Hutch seemed genuniely annoyed in the transcript of the tapes that she had ghosted him given everything he and his gang had done for her.
You don’t get annoyed like that over someone you never met.
Media reports, statements are not really appropriate. This one needs full independent investigations.
