Nursing homes hit by ban on switching to refugee centres

  1. The problem with this is that the govt leaves itself wide open to the accusations that it interferes with the market when it suits it.

  2. So we have no limit on refugees?

The population of Ireland is around 5m.

The population of all shithole countries is in the hundreds of millions so what happens if 2m refugees want to come here tomorrow? We allow them?

  3. >The Government has blocked nursing homes from being considered as accommodation centres for refugees amid growing concerns among health officials over the rate of care home closures.

    A sensible decision

  4. good, this is ridiculous, these nursing homes charge so much to families, then pay their own employees like shit and then expect it to be okay to house refugees and dump the elderly into their families who literally paid to have them taken care of

  5. Am I the only person that’s pro immigrant and refugee on this sub? Every time the subject is brought up nearly everyone is against immigrants. I think the solution is to build more housing.

  6. It’s insane to even consider using nursing homes for refugees.

I like the UKs approach where the public can sign up and allow them to be housed in their homes. It makes it easier for them to integrate, less pressure on government expenditure and helps the housing crisis to some degree.

  7. imagine 100’s of young men living with vulnerable old people. Has this country gone mad. How about setting up structures to prevent this sudden influx of male asylum seekers

  8. Who the fuck just who the actual fuck said “hey this building full of sick vulnerable people has some spare beds” let’s put a completely different vulnerable group in here and charge the government for it.

I hope, I really really hope you get the worst kind of itchy gentitals. You fucking cunt.

  9. An awful lot is happening in the nursing home sector. Chinese and US Corporates now own the majority of them and are squeezing or buying out smaller indigenous operators. All happening under our noses and nothing to see ….

  10. Hotels are full which benefits everyone who owns an air bnb, I wonder now how many TDs that would be.
Not a hope in hell would they let anyone else get in on the action.

  11. Nursing homes in Ireland are an absolute joke. I would never send a family member to one.

Sister worked in one and the fact their paid shit and have so much responsibility with the cheapest of resources is insane. Told me a story once of how they ran out of butter for over a week and gave the clients dry toast, the careers weren’t allowed to bring in butter. Also, the nurses treat the carers like shit.

Now they want to milk more money buy bringing in refugees who they’d probably convince to work for free and sack a few carers…

  12. from refugees in hotels, to the state paying 1 billion a year in rent to private landlords for the HAP scheme. Great little country.
