2) Has tarnished the perception of true asylum seekers;
3) He’s wasted a large sum of money, certainly for the average Albanian;
4) He was a would-be economic migrant (nothing wrong with that) who tried to jump the queue, very unBritish;
5) It’s heartbreaking about his disabled father, but you can’t just illegally enter other countries because of that
“On average more than half of Albanians are given asylum.”
Why? On what grounds?
The French boat escorting them into British waters says a lot about how much assistance we can expect from the French on this issue.
Apparently some insane proportion of hotel rooms are being paid for by your taxes to house Albanians permanently.
A country that hasn’t experienced war since 1945.
If one was inclined to take the time to listen to this [BBC podcast](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001dx77), I struggle to see how anyone can conclude that the bulk of Albanian migrants are anything other than economic migrants.
BBC promoting a ‘don’t tell the truth to the immigration officials or this will happen’ article. Hmmm.
How do you combat this problem:
>He added: “Yes there are legal ways, but I was in a hurry. I went for the quickest and cheapest way. The visa should be cheaper but I needed help with the application and people charge more for that than the dinghy journey.”
Legitimate help being undercut by people smugglers.
They should make him stay so he can tell others how great it is here
I would let him in, but kick out all the others lying about their application.
There is still an elephant in the room, why the UK? What is the pull factor?
UK is no better than Belgium, France or Germany, UK may even be slightly worse in fact.. it’s not that special here.
So what is it in UK that is different that is pulling people to come here ?
Push factor from Albania is obvious, it’s poor. Push factors from Iraq and Afghanistan are obvious too, they are poor, unstable and dangerous.places to live.
I’ve commented this many times on Reddit before. Most of these people are economic migrants and have a fantastical idea about what awaits them, not realising their future lies at the end of a broom handle struggling to pay daily living costs while watching the wealth and luxury flow around them. Without old friends, family, community, culture, customs or even language, they’ll like their lives in a small, isolated bubble of fellow desperates, many lured into a life of crime to try and break free.
I don’t see why we’re getting any legiitimate asylum seekers from Albania.
It mostly seems to be about the UK leaving the EU and them not being able to come here to work as they’re almost entirely young single men.
This is just about them circumventing immigration rules. It’s like someone from the UK deciding to go to Canada and claiming asylum when they get there.
There may be corruption and unemployment in Albania but that doesn’t give you the right to abuse the asylum system when there are more deserving cases fleeing actual persecution.
A lot of people from Albania want to work in the UK, and the British farmers have a labour shortage. Why not strike a deal with the Albanian government for a seasonal work program. This will cut out the people smugglers and there can be background checks on applicants.
Until we take organised crime seriously as a country, we shouldn’t be surprised that organised crime groups elsewhere are able to identify and utilise loopholes to break the law to get here
Perhaps we should set up some kind of reverse tourism board that can take out adverts on albanian tv saying how shite the UK is
