The rumoured EV driving ban in Switzerland

  1. This is a smart and reasonable measure to plan for as part of a layered plan to counter a potential nationwide issue. EVs do put tremendous strain on existing electrical infrastructure, and overuse in an electrically limited environment could be harmful for the nation.

  2. Nothing unusual or sensational here, if something becomes scarce its consumption will get limited.

  3. Infrastructure is not ready. We would need more always-on energy production (more nuclear for example) but it’s not what was decided.

  4. Would we have a 21st century electric grid this wouldn’t be an issue. Dynamic pricing is key to steer your usage according to electric production. This way I can charge my car when it’s the cheapest / the grid least used. That’s normally between 1am and 4am. But we’re still stuck with high and low tariffs in 2022… It’s just much easier blaming EV’s instead of bring modern technology to the electric grid market.
The problem won’t be the around 1.5% usage of electric cars the issue is the peak usage around dinner time when no normal person would charge their car.
With dynamic prizing I could also charge up my home battery bank during the off peak times and relive the grid in the evening by using my battery.

  5. Very intressting that if one does not agree with what op is saying, one is automaticaly an EV hater.

Mimimimi I am not allowed to drive my car, but my neighbour is. SO WHAT – come on… We have somany problems on this world. If you arent a Prick, you have friends… and friends are here to help. If you dont have electricity on 2 or 3 nights a week – who fucking cares. Buy a book and read, call up you friends and play a board game. Why do people always think they are getting fucked by the world.

    Rant over!
