Have you ever heard of the Elaine massacre? Fort Pillow? Ellenton? Tulsa? Opelousas? Colfax? Ocoee? Wilmington? Mountain Meadows? Can you please clean your sh*t before coming to our noses with your dirty fingers?
Il y a un film d’Ousmane Sembène (grand réalisateur Sénégalais) sur le sujet. Camp de Thiaroye.
Unfortunately it’s was common that mutiny was dealt with violently then and their condition as from the colony didn’t help.
But the tweet is a complete re-writing of the history based on an Al-Jazira « documentary ».
Calling it “hundreds” is a bit misleading ; the highest estimate speaks of 191 (which is already quite high and horrifying) and the suggestion of “hundreds” is pure speculation with no substantial evidence behind it – not that I’d put it past the dear Colonial forces.
More generally there was a shameful “whitening” of the Free French Forces around the time period – they wanted to sell the idea of Metropolitan – white – France resisting from day one, even though most of the FFL would form after as the opposition to the nazis became more successful.
I am French but I never heard of this. Thank you very much for bringing this piece of history up.
