Hallo zusammen,

I moved to Germany in 2020 and I’ve been struggling in one department specifically ever since. I’m a plus size woman and I can not figure out how to buy clothes here. I try online shopping but I always get worried because I don’t know which stores are legit and I prefer trying on clothes before I buy them. I have tried relentlessly looking up clothing stores but I haven’t had any luck at all. I don’t know if it’s because I’m not looking up the right key words or if Germany really doesn’t have any options for fat people. That all being said, does anyone have any suggestions for stores I can go to? I live in the Hessen area.

If you have suggestions for online shops, I would greatly appreciate those also. Right now I’m desperate because my clothes are getting old and I’m needing to get a dress for an event I’m going to this month.

Thank you all in advance for any help you can give me.

Update: Thank you everyone for all of the suggestions!! I’ve made a list of all of these places so that I can use them as needed in the future. I was successfully able to find a dress and I am so exited. For anyone interested, here is the dress I chose:

Thank you again for helping. I was feeling so demotivated and worried I wasn’t going to be able to find something. You all saved the day for me.

  1. Hey! C&A has a good variety of plus size clothes. In stores and online. You need to be fast to get nice clothes, they’re sold out pretty fast.
    H&M has plus size too but only online now, I dont really like their clothes..
    Shein has a lot of plus size clothes and their shipping to Germany is good too, not a long wait.

  2. Look for “Übergrößen” or “große Größen”.

    * https://www.c-and-a.com/de/de/shop/damen-grosse-groessen

    * https://www.bonprix.de/kategorie/damen-grosse-groessen/

    * https://www.otto.de/damen/mode/?grossegroesse

    And then you have https://www.ullapopken.de/de/filialfinder#! which specializes in bigger sizes and also has a couple of stores nationwide. They have stores in Göttingen, Kassel and Vellmar. You will probably find a dress for an event there 🙂

  3. h&m has plus sizes (only online), asos (their plus size brand is called asos curve), and i’m pretty sure zalando also has an extra section. only and mango have bigger sizes as well, i’m not sure, if they have them in store but i’ve definitely seen them on zalando, about you should also have plus sizes

  4. Mango, Mango Outlet – their plus size line is called Violeta

    ASOS – especially many of the ASOS design items come in different ranges, plus, petite, tall, maternity. Lots to choose from.

  5. most online shops have free returns, h&m has if you make an account. monki is a shop that has big sizes too but it’s better online. adidas has a plus size collection i think and zalando might be worth a try. i mostly order a bunch so it’s free shipping try everything on and return what i don’t need. zero unnecessary costs

  6. I buy alot from Momox Fashion. Its a Second Hand online store and I like the filters. They have many brands and also clothes in different conditions (even brand-new)

  7. Been buying from Ulla Popken both online and at brick and mortar stores. The clothes fit, they last, and are pricey but worth it.
    Over the past 15 years I’ve been buying the exact same cotton pants model and quality has remained the same. I buy about 3 pair per year and dispose of the worn-out pairs.

  8. Hi, fellow plus sized lady here. The plus size options are DISMAL here. I’ve ended up making a much as I can. For real stores, the only consistent one is Ulla Popken, otherwise you’re looking for Grösse Grossen.

    The online stores have much better options,you just have to get used to sending things back if you don’t like them.

  9. As far as I’m aware Germany or eu has an 2 week return policy on clothing anyway. A friend of mine orders clothing worth several thousand Euro pays per rechnung and tries everything on and returns 99% of the stuff she tries on. So don’t worry about it

  10. Seconding Ulla Popken, Only & Mango Plus sizes.

    Also Zizzi (online only afaik) is pretty good.

    If you don’t mind waiting a bit, I really recommend eShakti. It’s an Indian company, and you can order up to 6x but there’s also an option for custom sizes. It takes about 3 weeks to receive the clothes since they’re made to order, but the quality is the best I’ve come across. Prices are a bit high, but I like that this means the workers get paid better than is typical in fashion. (You also pay import duties in the checkout so you can receive the package here with no issues)

  11. In addition to the other great suggestions, if you like second-hand shopping then eBay Kleinanzeigen is great. You can search by size, location, color etc and there’s an enormous amount of stuff listed, often brand-new and at very reduced prices, esp for formalwear.

  12. https://www.happy-size.de/ is an online store of the likes of zalando and co, that is specially for plus sizes.

    Aboutyou.de is not specially for plus size, but i have had good experiences with getting larger sizes from them.

    C&A is the large brick and mortar store that is very common in larger cities that also has their clothing in larger sizes. As in, the clothing they have in 38 on the shelf often has multible pieces in 46, 48 and higher

    Edit: oh, and my personal rec for tights: check out snag.de, they have actually nice and comfy tights for all sizes, including plus sizes! They also have a very limited clothing section with skits and such, that i have not tested yet, other than their onesies. Thf onesie i got from them is awesome

  13. I guess it also depends on the quality and the style of clothes that you are looking for. In C&A there is an entire section specifically for sizes since 44 to something over 50.

    And I guess C&A is ok for the daily life, but I wouldn’t want to go to a nice party or a meal in a chic restaurant or celebrate my birthday wearing that. I don’t know what to advice for fancier clothing in larger sizes 🙁

  14. [happy-size.de](https://happy-size.de)

    [meyer-mode.de](https://meyer-mode.de) – they have up to size 66. Most of their stuff is boring, but occassionally you can find a true gem.

    Samoon by Gerry Weber [https://www.gerryweber.com/de-de/marken/samoon/alle-styles-samoon/](https://www.gerryweber.com/de-de/marken/samoon/alle-styles-samoon/)

    The budget fashion chain KiK ( [www.kik.de](https://www.kik.de) ) also carries larger sizes. The quality ranges from not so good to “decent for fast-fashion”. I like their panties bc they are cheap and comes in colours other than white. Stay away from the bras though, the quality is bad.

    IMO your best chance to find a dress is Sheego and Heine. Both are associated with Otto, but got slightly different stuff than Otto. Check their current websites as well as ebay.

    Ebay is a great source for fashion. Ebay is where older collections from the mail order giants go to be sold off at huge discounts. You can find stuff from Bonprix, Sheego, Heine, Meyer Moden as welll as HSE24 and QVC on ebay, usually new with tags from professional sellers that will accept returns if you don’t like what you got.

    Both Ulla Popken and Gerry Weber got official outlet stores on ebay and there are some other retailers as well.

  15. For special occasion dresses/outfits, my plus-sized friend in Germany shops in Luisa Spagnoli (stores & online). This Italian brand offers very nice clothing for plus size ladies (40-48 in German sizes), with shops in Munich and Düsseldorf. [https://www.luisaspagnoli.com/en/de](https://www.luisaspagnoli.com/en/de). C&A has pretty good options for plus size ladies.

  16. As others have already recommended, you have to look for “große Größen“ or “Übergrößen“. “Normal“ Stores don’t usually sell them though, so you need to look out for special stores.

    Depending on what style you like, you can also check out https://www.emp.de/

  17. Info: which size do you need? Do you even need longer clothes than just wider ones? There are a few shops in the Netherlands which work great for tall (175cm+) and curvy women (plus) like missetam.nl

  18. [Zalando.de](https://Zalando.de) is your best bet, they have tons of brands and sizes from very petite to very large.

    I also highly recommend to always take your measurements and look at the size charts because sizing varies from brand to brand and store to store

  19. Ah yea, plus size shopping sucks here.

    I usually shop at Sheego and Asos. I personally don’t like Ulla Popeken but they at least have proper shops. There’s also a brand called “Paprika” that might work for you.

  20. Bonprix.de has a good range of larger sizes (große Großen). Arrives by mail and comes ready with a return label in the box in case something doesn’t fit or you don’t like it, you can easily return
