President ‘prepared to resign’ over abortion law amendment.

  1. Why do we tolerate ancient individuals from a forgotten age deciding what young ppl should do with their bodies?

  2. Hope the door hits him on the way out too… Fucking troglodytes. Pity he doesn’t lose his pension too…

  3. Fine. Malta would be a better place if he did. But I would not keep my hopes high. If I remember correctly, he already threatened to resign once over some other bill… but instead, he just went out of the country and “second in command” signed that particular bill.

  4. he loves the money and lifestyle too much to resign.

however, at his age, he must also be preparing for the afterlife.

He will take the coward’s way out and go abroad so that a deputy will sign on his behalf.

  5. Makes you realise how much they are fixated with their image rather than anything else because God forbid his name is associated with abortion. Just like when he ran away so his delegate can sign off instead of him…

Reminds me of the ex who is always threatening to leave but never does. Go. The door is there. Do us a favour and leave.

  6. He does fuck all and the President is paid €80K to be a figurehead.

Ok, he disagrees with the law, he resigns. Absolutely no one in this country gives a shit about George Abela apart from Mrs. Abela.

  7. Nah he’ll find some “ official” visit and get his deputy to sign it ……… about time he shut up and fuck off

  8. Who could blame him?

Nobody in their right mind would want to be associated with a law that allows child murder.

  9. Good for me. As a country we cannot be held back from progressing forward because someone in their 70s isn’t ready to adapt to an ever changing world. If he (or any other political member) believes that they either get their way or they have to resign, than it’s time to make room for more open minded members so that we can grow as a nation.

Hopefully he keeps his word and doesn’t back track the second he realized that most people don’t give a crap about what he says especially when it’s regarding a decision that wouldn’t affect him since he cannot bare children.

  10. Does anyone think that he’s truly ready to resign and give up his presidential pension and other perks? He’ll just fly away on another conveniently scheduled “official visit” abroad and the vice president will sign it, as he recently did.

  11. CYA.

80 years of age.How are these fossils with their antiquated views still in power and expected to keep up with a changing society is a mystery. There should be an age limit to such positions.

  12. So he chose money over integrity. No surprises there. It’s the only qualification for public office.

In the meantime a law professor said this is not only an abortion bill but will set a new world record because it will allow an abortion even at 9 months when the baby is practically born.

The prime minister, another person of no integrity and a well documented liar, said that abortions were happening anyways and then went on to lie about the doctors doing abortion and government turning a blind eye.

That government would turn a blind eye to crime is to be expected but this is not he was referring to. It was in fact to the dozens of websites setup in Malta to help setup your abortion. One wonders if labour has a hand in finding them.

Below follows the expert opinion of law professor extracted from an online article:

In the case of a foetus, as government’s provision runs, it is possible to abort a foetus in utero up till a few seconds before the child is delivered, that is, during the ninth month of pregnancy, even if the pregnant mother’s life is not in danger and even if the child can be delivered successfully prematurely. But this is not what the government is stating.

If the pregnant woman is suffering from a temporary depression or stress, or remorse from having fallen pregnant, or does not have sufficient money to raise a new born child, the pregnant woman – so as not to put her health in grave jeopardy may, on the ninth month of the pregnancy opt to terminate the foetus’s life even though the foetus might be delivered prematurely and healthily without any risk, threat or danger to the pregnant woman’s life. I am not aware of any foreign law that provides for this. But at least government can claim that Malta will hold the record of being the first pioneering country in the European Union and in the world that aborts foetuses at their ninth month of gestation. A first for Malta that can be inscribed in the Guinness Book of Records.

  13. The bill will pass whether he resigns or not, if the desicion is taken he cannot go against it. This is not supposed to be about his personal opinion but him just doing his job which is to sign any bill that comes on his table.

As for the resignation, he can leave we would surely be better off! We need this bill to be enacated.

  14. Whether he resigns or not is irrelevant, the presidency is a cerimonial role and irrelevant. PN is trying to make mileage out of opposing but it is a lose-lose situation for them.

Adrian Delia tried to put some sense into the debate by pleading with the president not to resign and do something. Despite the fact that the president has little constitutional powers he is very influential!!

Also we had Roberta Metsola urging us to rise above our tribalism. We need to become more open minded and accept the fact that other points of view to our own can be just as good and valid.

  15. Have you seen what the Archbishop said?! You cannot kill a life to save another one. So he’d rather kill 2 instead of 1.

    Another day, another xiz-zobb moment.
