Remember that higher spending also probably means higher wages, so a country with good equipment and high wages will „loose“ against a country with good equipment and low wages

The US has not only the highest expenditure but also fat unhealthy population full of medical debt. I wonder how big countries like China, India or Russia managed not to die out with such low expenditures in comparison to the US.
Can tell about Russia. I was hospitalized from the private dentistry to the main city hospital with suspicion of phlegmon, got the tooth root removed and stayed in hospital for a week, paid nothing, except some additional food. A friend of mine got hospitalized with pneumonia, stayed for two weeks, paid nothing and got very good nutrition. It isn’t always that fine. Another friend of mine got cancer, the surgery here in Sevastopol is free but of low quality, so she needed to go to St. Petersburg for the surgery and paid 300k rubles which is quite expensive for an average person.
My cousin from Kiev is now in Germany as a refugee and she is very thankful for the help she got but she said the waiting lists can be scarily long there, in Ukraine you can get to the doctor much more quickly.
