What’s the deal with this song and why does it have so many versions-sincerely your local lurker

  1. There has to be a new version released every year so that the budget for Derek Warfields beard maintenance can be met by the royalties

  2. It was the first number one of the 2010’s in Ireland and UK iTunes charts. Nothing can take that away from it.

  3. It’s a song about a catholic/republican man arguing with his protestant neighbour in inner city dublin who fought in the British army and who’s loyalty lays with Britain, I’d guess it’s based at a time around 100 or so years ago , he’s calling his neighbour a black and tan in a derogatory way, the black and tans were British group of ex soldiers sent to Ireland and they acted with great autonomy and committed heinous acts against the Irish people

  4. The one version they won’t show you on Spotify is the one that trumps them all: [https://youtu.be/UM9eObfOWq4](https://youtu.be/UM9eObfOWq4)

I’ve genuinely heard it played when I was clubbing in Galway which blew my gee eyed mind at the time.
