Fossil fuel recruiters banned from three more UK universities

  1. Excellent news and nice to see that repeated protest action and complaints from students actually resulted in a tangible outcome.

If universities wish to keep pretending they are ‘green’ and ‘forward thinking’ then they ought to be severing ties with a dying, disgusting, exploitative industry.

  2. Seems a fairly dumb move. Fossil fuel companies are investing massively in renewable energy so how about if they are trying to recruit for the best graduates to go into their renewable energy programs?

Sure Fossil fuel companies are seen as the bad guys at the moment but many within the industry can see the writing is on the wall and these massive companies are looking to pivot into whatever comes next after Fossil fuel dependence ends.

  3. Looks like these guys will have to restrict recruitment fairs to just the engineering campus’ to avoid Petunia and the trust fundees.

  4. I don’t really understand this. By all means don’t engage with them if it goes against your principles but banning them from the entire campus seems very strange.

  5. this idiotic country is trapped in a vicious cycle now. I see no way out.

high energy prices -> punish fossil fuels -> higher energy prices -> punish fossil fuels – > repeat

so glad i left this calamity of a country. The left can enjoy reaping what they’ve sown.

  6. I enjoy driving my Fossil Fuel powered Car to work and back, and to drop my kids to school. I enjoy leaving the car running for 10 minutes in the winter burning all that fuel so the car warms up.

I enjoy using fossil fuel powered buses and trains. (Electric trains are still powered by Fossil Fuel Power Stations.)

I enjoy having a warm house in the winter which stops me from getting ill powered by fossil fuels Power Stations and Gas supply systems.

I enjoy having my food grown in farms that use tractors that use Fossil Fuels. Its better than the days when we had slaves doing that work.

I enjoy going on holiday in a Fossil Fuel Powered Airplane and a fossil Fuel Powered Cruise ship.

I enjoy that everything in my life is shipped to me by a fossil fuel powered Ship and Lorry from China, emitting millions and millions of tons of CO2.

Can everyone who hates Fossil Fuels stop using them for even 1 day. No you can’t. You won’t. So stop pretending like you give a shit.

  7. >The University of the Arts London, University of Bedfordshire, and Wrexham Glyndwr University

I bet the FF companies are really gutted about this…

  8. I think that universities like to ban people, as uncomfortable as it is they should not be banned. Just removed the negativity so a feedback loop is easily created.

  9. This thread:
“Won’t somebody please think of the oil poor censored oil industry :(”
“You want to make society better yet you exist… curious”

  10. This does not really change anything.

The students that apply to these jobs know how bad the fossil fuel industry is for society, and honestly they just don’t care. The money is just too good, and that’s hard to find as a young person these days.

It’s the same reason people go to work in banking or for the defense industry. They realize the harm these companies do to people, but £55k+ salary right out of university is hard to turn down unless you already come from money.

  11. What idiots. Fossil fuels are not going any where and are vital to our standard of living.
The 2 largest companies in Britain are Oil and Gas companies. Are they being banned??
