When it comes to student housing in the country, lots of students (and young researchers) must resort to applying for housing in the private market. Finding student housing privately is very difficult (and often impossible) since students and PhD students do not have CDIs, which is normally a requirement. (More information [here](https://today.rtl.lu/news/luxembourg/a/1990332.html).)
However, a bunch of students at the University have drafted a public petition with a few proposals (based on initiatives that have worked in other countries) with the intention of having the issue discussed in Parliament.

Translations in EN\\FR\\LU and a link to the petition on petitions.lu are available here: [https://housing.ccsa-uni.lu](https://housing.ccsa-uni.lu)

If we can get 4500 signatures on this petition, it will be discussed in Parliament.
Thanks!

  1. As sad as this will sound, there’s a 0% chance that the petition will improve the situation. It’s not just students getting shafted but a significant portion of workers as well.

The ideas (garabtie locative from the government or fiscal advantages) are good but exist already in the form of privately run social housing. I’m just surprised that Uni.Lu hasn’t yet worked towards being included in that scheme.

The third solution (allowing non-EU to study in Lux, but live in FR/BE/DE) won’t work without first changing immigration laws in those countries as well. That change would then open a whole other can of worms for the four countries: Non-EU citizens on work visa would (rightfully) want the same right as the non-EU students. And I just don’t see BE/FR/DE going for that
