Biden Administration officials have suggested that the U.S. will press Ukraine to formally cede a measure of autonomy to eastern Ukrainian lands now controlled by Russia-backed separatists

  1. We heard 4 years of “What does Putin have on Donald Trump” for the next guy to give him a Pipeline and Ukraine in under a year.

  2. Don’t forget this is AP – and AP always runs the party line – the Establishment party line.

The E.U. and NATO can vigorously prevent further aggression. And can develop an EDF as well. The Commonwealth could help.

But ultimately, it is up to Ukraine and Poland and Lithuania.

    And perhaps Slovakia and Estonia.

  3. Any country that retains a border and Russian gauge railway tracks should be encouraged to cut the links or better still convert to standard 4’8” 1/2 track.

  4. >Ukraine, which has deep cultural and historic ties to Russia

I really hate when journalists write this as it only enforces the idea of Ukraine as being in Russia’s sphere of influence. You might as well say:

    >Ukraine, which has deep cultural and historic ties to Poland

and it would be completely right.

Western and Central Ukraine were part of Lithuania/Poland/PLC for longer than they were part of Russia or the USSR. These areas of Ukraine have dozens and dozens of cities who received Magdeburg rights. Other events like the Union of Brest also influenced the cultural landscape of these areas.

Even the Odesa province has significant historical ties to the Principality of Moldavia and the Romanian lands. Plus, the historical demographic makeup of Odesa itself is more akin to what you found in the Pale Settlement than in Russia itself, and it left deep marks on the city, even if it was “built by Russians.”

It’s kind of the same with Belarus, whose destruction in WW2 and subsequent Russification have obscured the historical links to Central Europe.

  5. I told you US will never attack Russia and Russia will never attack US. And that’s good, we don’t need ww 3! This shout outs in media is only collecting political points for next elections.

  6. Uhh…
I have heard that Biden will invite four major NATO allies and Putin to talk about NATO’s expansion in this weekend, is that true?

Source: FT and Telegraph analysis the talk between Putin and Biden.

  7. As Ukrainian I would agree to do this if Russia will return Crimea too but it won’t so fuck off

  8. This does feed into the Kremlin’s narrative that Ukraine is controlled by the West, no matter the nature of how the U.S. ‘presses’ Ukraine. Not to mention how the Kremlin will refuse to accept a special status that means anything other than a Russian veto in Ukrainian affairs.

  9. Russia de-facto controls the regions and Ukraine realistically in no way has the resources to retake them, considering that in the first place the main reason they were lost is due to russian infliltration and how they’re poor and war-torn now making them Russia’s problem is a no brainer strategically if they can get something out of it, they’re going to need something more than the usual empty well-wishing though.

  10. This is incredibly immoral, and IMO, reflects the growing American sentiment to be non-interventionist. I’m progressive, but I despise the sentiment on the Left to leave international affairs alone. Obviously not everything America has done is good, but in general America should police the world, otherwise immoral things like this will happen.

  11. Biden, just like Obama, is weak… under Obama Ukraine lost Crimea, now under Biden they will lose eastern Ukraine…

    And Trump was Putin puppet?

  12. Yeah. The title of the article is not the title given. This is cherry-picked nonsense. The article (if anyone decided to read it) states that locals in these regions could have more authority over some issues. It states that Europe negotiated “special status” for the region, but it was never implemented. “The (Biden) administration officials made no mention of ceding any territory, and Biden has said that Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are not on the table for the U.S.”

  13. How quickly the US went from “If you invade Ukraine, we’ll wreck your shits” to “If you invade there will be sanctions” and now “Ukraine should more amenable to Russia”.

And it would be the same for Poland, NATO or not.

  14. Biden is becoming the Chamberlain of this century. A little bit of appeasement before he kicks the bucket

  15. Okay guys hear me out okay, we give Putin the sudatenland, and then he will leave the rest of Czechoslovakia alone.
