> *Local Fingal councillor Adrian Henchy, of Fianna Fáil, said … “We are not anti-apartment in this area, but this scheme has an imbalance that is far too great in favour of apartments over family homes.”*
Ireland needs 1million apartments before 2050 because of expected family size, we already have most of the ‘large’ houses we’ll ever need.
> *Mr Fletcher (chairman of the Donabate Community Council, which opposes the scheme) also said the local area did not yet have the social and physical infrastructure to cope with the number of new homes that developers want to build in the area.*
Pure NIMBY. They have a rail line and roads and room for schools, do they think these things will be built *before* there are people there to use them?
What are the reasons for the objection?
They never put that in the headline, it’s behind the paywall.
The last one they tried to get around the rules by lashing all the social apartments in the shady part away from the rest or something.
Do they have a GP surgery in the massive development or a plan for schools?
There needs to be a bit of governance and communication on this sort of stuff, in alot of areas you can’t get a D Doc, a GP will give you an appointment for next week, you are told you are a monster for going to A and E (it’s a hellhole up there)
We have had failures in mass building projects in the past that helped lead to social and generational issues.
A simple
Hey lads we are building 2000 apartments at te top of the road but don’t worry we are building an extension on the medical centre and getting 2 new GPS and 2 extra classrooms is going in the school.
We will use the money that these 2000 tax paying families will contribute.
But what seems to happen is, hey ye you found out about the extra 2000 people coming in, so what, you can’t veto people coming into the area, where do you think you are Dalkey. Some of the people in your estate are on drugs, you are far right groups.
How do I voice my support of the scheme? All we ever hear is of the people objecting…
For the love of fuck just build the houses and build them good.
The construction industry pays for apartment defects _today_, but apartment owners will be paying for defects that aren’t their fault _tomorrow_ – just like in the UK.
With Ireland’s standards of planning, construction and regulations – apartments are a liability, and people would be utter fools to purchase them as a primary home.
Nimby scum. It never changes in this place. An island of little Hitlers.
Great news for the landlords. Keep demand high and rents higher

Always the same objections to apartments, whether it’s Fianna Fáil or Sinn Féin. Their inevitable coalition will ruin this country.
What they’re trying to build: https://corballiseastshd.ie/
