“No part of the media in Austria understands how Chancellor Karl Nehammer, or the Government in Vienna, can oppose Romania’s accession to the Schengen Area.

Der Standard headlines “Vienna humiliates Bucharest”. Journalist Adelheid Wolfl claims that Austrian investments in Romania are in great danger.

“Austria punishes its own Romanian companies without any objective reason. Because of the Schengen border, trucks would be detained for hours at customs, and Austrian companies would also lose a lot of money.

It is really incomprehensible why Nehammer wants to ‘punish’ Romania, of all countries, for the fact that so many migrants came to Austria this year.

The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, stated that less than three percent of the illegal migrants who apply for asylum in Austria have previously passed through Romania. On the other hand, 370,000 Romanian tourists leave 250 million euros annually in Austrian hotels and restaurants”, noted the Austrian journalist.

Austria is also one of Romania’s main commercial partners, an aspect highlighted on Monday by Romanian entrepreneurs, through a message-manifesto sent by local businessmen, organized within the Romanian Business Leaders.

“(…) What unites us with Austria? It seems that many things, since: around 370,000 Romanians visit Austria every year, spending around 250 million euros; the economic exchanges between Romania and Austria in 2021 were 4.5 billion euros, of which 1.7 billion were exports and 2.8 billion were imports; Austrian investments are on the 2nd place in Romania, with approximately 5.3 billion euros of direct investments and over 8,000 companies with Austrian capital. And then what is Austria’s anger, why doesn’t it want us in Schengen?”, declared Dragoș Petrescu, the famous businessman from the “Empire of Lions”.

Austria, a new gross blackmail against Romania?!

Although the Austrian chancellor invokes uncontrolled migration, this argument is false, according to the former prime minister of Romania, Mihai Tudose.

There are other arguments, political and economic, that those states cannot say, publicly, at the table”, declared Tudose, the other day.

Political scientist Ciprian Purice frankly supports the fact that Austria wanted to blackmail Romania much too crudely.

“Proud that I didn’t enter Schengen. Proud of my country!

The good news in all this mess is that I didn’t give it to them. I didn’t give them anymore! Just like I’ve been doing for 30 years. Constanța Port, Black Sea gas, the CEC or who knows what else the Austrians asked for. Because it’s about money. Only about money! The migration spell and the choices from it are for parrots. In reality, we didn’t give them any more, and they didn’t vote for us anymore.

So I am proud that, for the first time in the last 30 years, Romania did not give in.

Than the servants of the Austrians, better without Schengen!”, Ciprian Purice said on his Facebook page.

George Simion, the leader of AUR, attacked politicians from Vienna, but also those from Bucharest. The head of the party in great ascent claims that Romanian diplomats, respectively the president and the governors, are also to blame for the failure.

“It is a failure of the current Government from Bucharest and President Klaus Iohannis. We request the resignation of the entire Ciucă Cabinet, it is a resounding failure for the entire Romanian diplomacy led by Klaus Iohannis and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu.

It’s a sign that this Government can’t deliver anything, can’t ensure the well-being of Romanians, can’t do for Romania what it says it’s doing,” George Simion said.”

  2. Good for our Romanian neighbors that resisted concessions and stood firm. There should not be a diplomatic failure because both Romania and Bulgaria pledged to enter Schengen in 2007. We both passed the border tests in 2011 and should’ve been accepted. This blackmail or xenophobia from Austria and Netherlands is shameful. Imagine if Romania and Bulgaria started to blackmail Finland and Sweden for nato. Is this how things should be done from now on? I’m not suggesting they should and it’s just example of similar behavior.

  3. Would you kindly send these to Austrian news outlets? Because there is jack shit of a coverage over here. And more people should see what and how the grand ÖVP is operating here on international level.

  4. Too late. I am so fucking pissed off. Game on Ro, you are tough, you came from poverty. Kick it!!

  5. Oh yes, thanks austrian press for reporting this, way before the vote to make sure to put some pressure on austrian shitheads. Oh wait.
    To little, to late.

  6. How many more propaganda articles are we supposed to get here? This article is refering to a single article by “Der Standard”, which is a newspaper with an open pro-immigration Agenda that is publishing text that might be either satire or fake news. They are frequently ridiculled for articles claiming things like the migration wave in 2015 beeing “the most qualified immigration ever, we could fill whole univiersities with it” or another article stating the need to adapt a “Bazar economy”, so immigrants could fit in better. It’s not surprising that this newspaper supports abolishing every border control between Austria and Turkey. One can btw. watch them delete user comments criticizing the article in live time.

A more readworthy article is [this one.](https://kurier-at.translate.goog/politik/ausland/vor-schengen-abstimmung-schlepperrouten-vermehrt-ueber-rumaenien-bulgarien/402252123?_x_tr_sl=de&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=wapp) Some of the things mentioned there: *”78 percent of Afghans name Bulgaria as the first EU country, as do two-thirds of Moroccans. On the other hand, 50 percent of people from Bangladesh state that they traveled via Romania.”*, *”40 percent come from Turkey via Bulgaria, mainly people from Afghanistan, Syria, Morocco, Egypt and Somalia. Another 40 percent enter the Balkan region by plane without a visa, especially Indians, Turks and Bangladeshis. The further route via Romania is also important for flights arriving via Belgrade. These are hardly recorded, but 61 percent of all hits on the European fingerprint database Eurodac from the countries of of India, Turkey and Bangladesh were recorded in Romania.”*

  7. Austria’s claims aren’t worth 2 cents. Romania has been anti immigration since the very beginning of the migrant crisis and was even criticized by western nations for the low number of immigrants it received inside its borders. Most immigrants arrived in Europe by traversing the Mediterranean to Spain and Italy. And in the Balkans they traveled through Greece and Serbia, in order to reach Germany and France.

And even if Romania was somehow involved in this, immigration wasn’t one of the requirements for entering Schengen. Romania fulfills the requirements since 2011. They were refused then too. The entire system of admission is flawed if you are qualified for entry, but you can’t because someone doesn’t like you. It’s a form of ethnic discrimination. Austria is using this opportunity in order to force Romania to sell it cheap oil from the Black Sea.

Still Romania is in the EU and they can also veto against Austria’s interests if the opportunity arrives. Austria just caused unnecessary trouble for the whole EU.

  8. Too little, too late!

And we’re not impressed by these cheap tricks!

Austria failed and the EU failed us!

Now let’s see how we can better retaliate on them and on the EU for not really having our backs!

15 fucking years of waiting silently in poverty and for what?

Now it will be another winter where I have to wait at the border before entering my country because Austria and the EU doesn’t give a fuck about me and my family!

    We’ll fuck them!

I can’t believe, but Hungary was right all along, it’s everybody for itself in this fake union!

I can barely wait for the next elections in my country to vote for the most far-right nationalist party there is.
