Why Nigel Farage is wrong about London being minority white

  1. Holy shit only 37% of people in London are white British ? Ball hair over a third I’d say that’s rather substantial and heading towards a minority tbh.

  2. I know I am going to get a ton of abuse for this and lots of veiled racism but hey. I feel like the bbc article is missing the point. Yes what he said is a lie and inaccurate but why does it matter if large urban centres are minority white? Most large global majorly communities choose to live in urban areas and wojld feel alienated living in the very white majority countryside. Is that a problem? Why?

Edit: interesting how many people are confusing race with nationality. Black and Asian doesn’t mean foreign!

  3. I’m in London borough of newham, and my daughter was the only white English child in her class (year 1). Both her teachers were not English either. Whats the percentage by the time she goes to secondary school, that 37% of her future class mates will have any sort of actual British background.

  4. I mean I don’t like him but he’s right? You can see it when you walk around London. Majority means over 50% of the population. That’s no longer the case anymore so you can make the argument imo. The bbc article and comments on here are about semantics, about if it’s true or not but it doesn’t address what he’s getting at which is, London has changed ethnically at an unprecedented pace. As someone who has lived in London and seen it happen very quickly in a short amount of time I just don’t think it’s sustainable.

  5. The article should also have brought up the idea that people not being 100% white would not mean problems in British national identity.

Many of the people who don’t just check the white box are mixed race, but are still raised, and taught values and culture from a white parent. They can also be taught British values by parents who live in this country and aren’t 100% white. But as soon as their skin is not white enough, they are treated as outsiders by this country’s bigots.

Not bringing this up is giving a little ground to white genocide conspiracy theorists

Anyone else remember the time the UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom was confronted by a UKIP conference brochure in which the front cover was a crowd of exclusively white people, and he [freaked out](https://www.theguardian.com/politics/video/2013/sep/20/godfrey-bloom-hits-michael-crick-video), called the journalist racist for noticing that everyone was white, and hit him with the pamphlet?

UKIP doesn’t want people who aren’t white in this country, and you can’t achieve that without racist violence.

  6. But the data they present days each city is a minority white British.

I’m no fan of him, but BBC are making this argument in bad faith and it is shameful.

  7. Ohh boy I can’t wait to read a bunch of Active Measures gishgallop trying to make me stop recognising a patently true fact!

  8. It is perfectly reasonable for people to be concerned that the capital city of their nation has over the course of less than three decades changed irreversibly due to mass immigration. There are people alive of working age today, still only middle aged, who have lived through this immense transformation to their neighbourhoods and communities, and no one asked them if they wanted it. They’re given the choice to accept it and keep quiet or to be called racist.

  9. England is dying and our leaders don’t care. 1/6 people in England are foreign born. Less than 10million people identify as english.

  10. I’m genuinely curious to understand the PoVs of people who actually care if London were minority white? I care whether the people that live in England are decent people or not, which has absolutely no correlation with skin tone, country of origin or ethnicity.
Can someone please enlighten me on this? And I’m not looking for confirmation bias here so save the “They’re all just racist” comments, I would actually appreciate it if someone who thinks this is important would answer me cogently.

  11. it is astonishing how London has changed over the decades, London in 1992 is very different from 2022.

The GDP per capita of the UK is 32,140 pounds.

The GDP per capita of London is 56,000 pounds.

compare this to Singapore which is 60200 pounds.

London really is Singapore on the Thames, that’s why it’s a magnet for economic migrants. London pays a huge amount of tax, and it’s the economic heartbeat of the UK.

  12. Some of the comments in this thread…yikes.

Nobody seems to have a top down perspective on this, so lets start there.

Lets take some couples. John and Mandy are middle-class, white British. They’d like to have kids but both put their career first. The country doesn’t support Mandy to retain her role guaranteed, or John to take paternity leave, or them to afford childcare – so they have one child and no more.

Tim, a white British man, marries Sandra, a black American woman. They have a similar situation to the above couple, but Sandra decides to become a stay at home mum. They have three kids who aren’t classed as white British although one of their parents is.

Lucy and Jenny are a white lesbian couple. They decide to adopt children. They adopt three mixed race children as they don’t want to break up existing siblings. The children are mixed-race although neither of the parents are.

Nadia is a British Asian woman whose family has lived in the UK since 1900. She marries a white Finnish man and has children. Nobody in the family is white British although one of the parents is British and one is white.

There’s a pervasive assumption in a lot of the comments here that the only way white people can be becoming a minority is by a *surge* of first-generation immigrants coming in from majority non-white countries, with no admission that that is a gross oversimplification that ignores all kinds of mixed families and all kinds of reasons why white British people are not limiting themselves to dating other white British only and having hordes of children as soon as they’re physically able.

E: since some folk are missing this – if you are someone in government who ideologically, from culture etc. want there to be more white British children born – then you have to create the conditions that enable couples like John and Mandy to feel comfortable to have more children. Whether that’s subsidising childcare more, ensuring that Mandy will keep her job, giving John parental leave, ensuring they can afford a house with more bedrooms, helping them arrange their work hours around childcare, instituting a four day week etc. You can’t as a government minister wring your hands and at the same time perpetuate the circumstances that lead people like John and Mandy to make the only choice they see as viable.

  13. To me the skin colour part is irrelevant. But the percentage of people who identify as English, living in London should be the majority.

  14. All i want is for people to be happy amongst each other and for us to all share similar values. The real diversity is how different we **all** are and having british values is the most important, when living in britain. Division is so apparent now and we all need to realise we are being strongly manipulated by loud voices of the minority (typically the richest 1%). BBC are the worst for being obsessed by skin colour…

  15. >Why Nigel Farage is wrong

Also BBC going to bring him onto some talk show or Question Time again for no apparent reason, just the platform him?

He went from an absolute nobody to the the most known because of the BBC

  16. It’s the cultural changes that bother me, just doesn’t feel culturally British anymore, depends on the person whether or not that matters to them I suppose.

  17. The fact is there’ll never be an honest discussion on immigration while lefties throw about isms just because they want to avoid the issue.

Yet those same lefties value LGBT rights, well some people from certain cultures do not value such rights, that is a fact, you only have to look at schools that had angry muslim parents protesting against LGBT lessons, if that had been Christians you can guarantee that the media would screaming “white supremacy!”

The fact is why would anyone want to be a minority in their homeland? People on here are saying “who cares” but when our history and heritage is constantly being told to be “decolonised” and “is too white” by second and third generation immigrants that doesn’t spell diversity and multiculturalism to me, that spells trying erase one culture for another.

I’ll expect the downvotes and cries that I’m a racist but I believe the native population in any country should be 85%-90% at the very least.

  18. My girlfriend is a Chinese Welsh woman. I am a ethnically white South African man. I would like to maybe have children with her one day. Reading many of these comments genuinely makes me reconsider having those children in this country.

It might just be a loud minority on the internet but it doesn’t feel very nice hearing the voices that are angry about our existence.

I think I get a little extra overly sensitive to this sort of stuff because of my home country’s horrible recent history.

  19. You will all be shocked when abortion gets banned and people vote no on workers rights, when you realise your culture and values are no longer the 51%.

  20. > It turns out that 53.8% of Londoners said they were white in 2021 – so a white majority.

A figure that’s dropped nearly 6% in a decade and just 37% of those are British. Not really doing a great job of disproving the point he’s making.
