My dad was charged over 2 grand this month on his GoMo bill, it says on the bill he has 3 messages and he’s been charged 2 grand. He told me he only messaged a news station for some cash prize thing they do. What the fuck lads? GoMo has no number to ring either

I seen the texts also, it was only to newstalk 57557.
update : Gomo emailed back saying it was an error (obviously). the bill is due the 12 so we’ll see if it gets sorted by then

Get in touch with gomo through their chat feature, if you get no joy there report it to comreg. That really looks like a mistake though probably meant to be 2.70
Thats the cashcall number. It is a daily prize draw. Cost 2.50 for each entry. Its a promotion on the goloud network of stations. If you play often, they text and ask if you want to enter again. 3 entries for the price of 2 and stuff like that. He must have just entered… a lot… it is running every day since about May I think.
Gomo reply via Facebook messenger if that helps.
Block the direct debit immeditely!
Was it a recurring thing?
One of those ones where you text play and it’s 30 quid a day until you text stop?
He’s probably installed some scam app on his phone that texted a scam number abroad then it deleted the sent message.
Get a properly itemised bill
Same has happened to my mother in law – 1 international text to a phone number in Sri Lanka – see attached images. If I’d not spotted it they would (I assume) have just taken it out of her account, absolute joke this has got through. She also has all premium sms etc blocked

Will get onto their live chat tomorrow and update what they say in here
As someone who has worked in Eir and seen the absolute mess of their different billing systems, never ever give them your bank details, always pay in the post office.
since when is a text 900 quid lol
Vodafone blocked my account at €60 once because I’m an idiot and forgot to turn off data while flying to the US, thank God for that.
0891 50 50 50!
I had a similar issue over 10 years ago. A company called “blackdog” were sending occasional “premium” texts to my dad and charged him over €1500. Absolute shower of bastards. Had to research the company online to find a contact I could write to and threaten legal action. Unreal companies like this are allowed to operate… hope you get it sorted
It sometimes happens with false websites or popup on website which you try to clear to get to what you want but on a phone the “x” is so small that you inadvertently hit on the automatic sms entry and start getting hounded by sms texts. I got charged 415 on top of my bill for this and when disputed it with 3 mobile they just said it wasn’t their problem. I found out the company behind it and eventually traced one of the owners back to Devon and made contact with him through his missus on Facebook…………………He was not a bit happy but after a few positive nudges in the correct direction I was fully refunded. Their is ALWAYS someone behind these companies…..it takes time and patience but you will eventually find the right person to squeeze…especially if you find out what is dear to them
Look further down the bill at the SMS section to verify it’s the newstalk texts that are being billed for.

If it’s them, get onto the gomo chat. If it’s something else google the number.
Gomo are supposed to be capped to like €50 euro for things like premium calls and international calls, this looks like a total mistake in there billing.
Those competitions are really scammy, my partner texted on in Dunnes a while ago, they send you a rapid burst of messages, each cost €2.50 and it gets expensive fast. You need to text STOP and they do stop but it’s probably clearing out some old-dear’s balance. Not cool.
