I know a lot of bands don’t just disappear, as some have one great album and are still around in a small way but I was listening to Director & Orphancode this morning and it got me thinking about bands like The Revs, Two Door Cinema Club, Corner Boy, Royseven, Kanyu Tree etc.

Edit: Jaysus lads fair play to ye!
Here’s a playlist I made of most of yer suggestions, bout 9 hours worth!

  1. The Revs kept going for a while, but eventually split to do other things. What a superb band they were live though. So bloody tight.

  2. Two bands that I really liked that fell away despite doing relatively well in Ireland were Fight Like Apes and Republic of Loose.

  3. The Strypes, never managed to live up to their hype. Second album was very good.

I felt that being managed hy their parents meant they were too clean cut. Couldn’t write songs about drinking and shagging like normal teenagers.

  4. Anybody remember a Tallaght band called The Cans? Unsurprisingly, searching “Tallaght” and “Cans” does not yield the results I want.

  5. I LOVED Royseven, especially live, they were great craic, but they just seemed to stop. I quite liked Director as well , another band out around the same time. I don’t think Royseven have their music on Spotify even. Must check again. JJ72 vanished without a trace also.

  6. The Sultan’s of Ping…their first years were mental, especially live….they reform now and then for a couple of gigs but that’s about it

  7. Kerbdog! Well they still play now but haven’t had a studio album since 1997. Could of been huge but all was against them

  8. ASIWYFA, Cast of Cheers, Delorentos*, Director.

*I know they’re still going but should have been enormous.

  9. Can remember Ham Sandwich got a fair amount of buzz when the Meteor Awards were a thing. Haven’t heard of them in a decade.
