Dear Redditors of Denmark,

As the title says, I (F26) need help finding long lost childhood friends from Denmark whom I met at a holiday resort near Izmir in Turkey ca. 2004. My younger brother and I met Søren and Matthias* (then both ca. 13-14 years old) as well as Matthias’ little brother Magnus (then ca. 6-7 years old) during summer and had a really fun couple of days together despite us not speaking a word of English at all. They especially loved my brother (then 3.5 years old) and often played with him during these couple of days. Before they left for Denmark, we had our pictures taken together and exchanged home addresses so that we could send each other the pictures once they get developed. We sent them our pictures but unfortunately never received anything from them. In my family, we still reminisce about them every once in a while and wonder what they are up to these days, after almost 20 years. These two boys should be in their early 30s now. It would be absolutely incredible to reconnect with them, and I would appreciate any help from this huge community! Maybe it is one of you, or someone you know, or someone someone you know knows so on and on, so please ask your fellow Matthiases, Magnuses and Sørens if this sounds familiar 🙂

*Not sure of the spelling

PS.: I hope this post isn’t inappropriate/irrelevant for this subreddit, I just wanted to give it a try as it is the largest online Danish community I came across. In that case, my apologies and I appreciate any other recommendations for other subreddits or online communities.

Lastly, I still have our pictures with them, and I would be happy to post them here as having the faces would likely go a longer way compared to just the names, but I wasn’t sure if that would be against the personal information rule. Please let me know what you think!

TL;DR: Looking for brothers named Matthias and Magnus, now aged early 30s and mid-20s respectively, as well as Matthias’ friend Søren, all of whom we met during their camping holiday in summer 2004 in Turkey.

  1. Where in Denmark did they live at the time? All are very common Danish names, so narrowing it down will help. Posting the picture I’d be hesitant about, since I would hate it if somebody posted a picture of me online from that age 😉

  3. Try looking up Andershemmingsendk on Instagram. He is the biggest meme account in Denmark, and occationally he repost stuff like this in order to help people find someone they saw in the supermarket, someone who did something nice, etc.

  4. Do you not have last names? It’s not going to be easy going by just those names, they are way too common. Any other info you remember would be useful.

  5. Can you remember if it was Mathias or Matthias?

    There’s “only” 800 people named Matthias, so with the name of his brother and the age range it’s plausible that you could find him.

    If he’s however named Mathias (with single t), there’s 22.000 instead

  6. Woah, my name is Magnus and my brother is Mathias. We fit right in those age ranges and we went to turkey when we were younger. I can’t really relate to anything in your story, maybe because I was about 10. Is it possible I can see the picture unblurred. If it’s my brother I’ll know right away!
