Yes I’m sure people watch Eastenders and scream at their tv about the truly unattainable life they lead in Albert Square.
well this sounds like some bs.
If I wanted the BBC to program for people without alot of money, I would be asking them to hold the Tories to account, and stop telling their lies.
There’s enough of that on TV with love island and all those reality shows.
Only unemployed bums and stay at home parents watch day time TV instead of Netflix or other subscriptions lol
Stop wasting taxpayer money
Their schedule is banal already. If they made it any ‘Lighter,’ it would float away.
Current licence fees surely take poorer people out of watching ..
Only saying
I grew up scum and my parents always had Radio 4 and heavyweight stuff on. Probably because they were aspirational and we are all doing well now, but its kind of dystopian that the once venerable BBC is taking the bread-and-circuses approach to keep the working class in neo-serfdom.
Great here comes the condescending faux aspirational trash that London execs think ordinary people love.
To be fair, some stuff on BBC is good but a lot of it is just straight edgy and weird.
Not that ITV dont mind you but its definitly more common on bbc
If I wanted to watch drivel I’d watch ITV. Is this their new strategy to get rid of the BBC? Make it produce more shite and dull it down for the masses?
People don’t watch BBC because it’s got zero light content, which it is totally full of trash now. We don’t watch it because paying a company to view content they don’t own in from companies is pure lunacy.
But we have YouTube now. Your a tad late I’m afraid
In other words, “dumb down.” Just abolish the BBC. It’s an anachronism.
Like failed celebs dancing with people or Irish men dressing up in drag and being “funny” or actors pretending to be from a part of London but never swearing…
Please note that this edict comes from **Ofcom**, not the BBC itself
If the BBC don’t fulfill this remit, they’re penalised and could even lose their licence
It’s mental, though – **trying to appeal to people who don’t watch your shows** is the exact opposite of the way every other channel operates
*whiter?
I’m only half joking sadly… Whilst BAME Brits are likely to be poorer the sheer number of White people in Britain (>50m) means that there will be more of them.
Those cancellations must be biting
The BBC went their own way in who they were aiming their content at and I feel that quite a lot of normal people feel that it doesn’t offer them anything any more. Its not just “poor” people that feel this
So we can look forward to Celebrity toe nail cutting and Stars with Haemorrhoids then? The sad thing is there’s a never ending moronic audience out there.
More great reasons to continue not paying the license fee and doing all possible to ensure it does not become mandatory.
Is this an article from 20 years ago that The Guardian have accidentally reposted?
This won’t “help” anything when no one can afford to turn their TV on.
Maybe stop bullying people to get a tv license and make actually enjoyable content.
