The overwhelming replies i had yesterday was surprising. But first off, my body is fairly warmer than usual and i dont get cold fast. All these time i was investing in insulated/waterproof shoes. Never the socks, best socks i had was heatgear from underarmour (heat retention socks). So i tried the advices here to wear wool socks and i have those thin ones and i put it over my usual UA socks. Wore same shoes for comparison. Same temp and damn. 🤯 The world of difference even a thin wool socks can make. Thank you Norway reddit!

  1. Preferably use wool close to the body. Wool transports moisture away from the body. And should you be unlucky enough to get completely wet, wool still keeps you warm.

  2. I was given a very sweet telling-off by the staff of my little son’s naturbarnehage – his boots were wrong for this weather (the boots are recommended by the selfsame naturbarnehage, just not for this time of year apparently) and my son’s socks were *synthetic*.

Please don’t contact barnevernet just yet, I’m working on getting him proper footwear!!!

TBH I’m about to post on r/Bergen about this, but I might as well try here too: anyone know of a shop that sells wool socks for 3-year-olds? I found a bunch of socks which were 20 percent wool, which means only most of his toes will fall off, rather than of all of them…

  3. It’s easy, when I was working outside, I would use wool underneath, long legs, and long-armed, with wool socks. and cap. I was so warm working that I would never use a jacked or anything else than a sweater, and normal work pants.
