Fritbox! – a household name here in Germany much to my despair.

I want to use mine as only modem as seen [here](https://www.heise.de/ratgeber/Fritzbox-7412-als-DSL-Modem-DECT-Basis-und-Ersatzrouter-einrichten-4623123.html) and [here](https://deer-it.de/fritzbox-7412-modem-bridge-mode-pppoe-passthrough/). The reason being I want to use my own router, an Asus RT-AX55. I am with *1und1*.

However, despite my best efforts to connect my router via PPoE, I just simply cannot get an internet connection through the Fritzbox once the setting have been changed accordingly… much to my frustration reverting back to the 1und1 connection is also not possible without a full reset of the system (I am now on my 5th in the past 48hrs).

Any network queens/kings want to help me figure out what the hell is happening here?

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

  1. You might want to ask that on a teichsupport sub instead. In the worst case you could use it as a router and daisy chain two routers to get it working, but that wouldn’t be the perfect solution

  2. Did you check the handbook or on their support sites? Usually FRITZ!box have quite documentations about their products.

I came across this setup https://deer-it.de/fritzbox-7412-modem-bridge-mode-pppoe-passthrough/

At the end it says there might be a special case with 1&1 maybe that’s what’s wrong with your setup? *Nach einer recherche bin ich auf einen 1und1 Artikel gestoßen.

Bei einigen Routern muss vor die DSL Einwahldaten ein “H” gesetzt werden*

  3. 2 things:
Fritz support is really helpful (used their help quite a bit ^^) but those cheap provider branded routers don’t offer the same functionality as regular ones.

So it’s quite common to buy an old “unbranded” version and skip the branded bullshit, especially if it’s only used as a modem…

They build decent routers and their support is actually excellent.

I would suggest to just start using the Fritzbox as intended and then – and just then – connect your Asus with a lan cable. Are you 100% certain your DSL is even activated yet?
