‘Exposed to horrendous things’: young people in UK speak out against evangelical church | Christianity

  1. Oh what a surprise….

A very rich person at the top….demands for money…..promoting idiot ideas regarding mental health….making folk feel oppressed/bad about their wellbeing.

Why is religion still such a thing? Its incredibly outdated, and corruption runs to its very core(s).

  2. This grifters have alot of money and power in Portugal and Brazil. I feel sorry for any family that gets tangled in the cult web.

  3. Away from the superstition and myth it’s about community and making people feel valued ‘love bombing’ emotional manipulation on behalf of their imaginary friend that constantly demands money.

  4. The best inoculation for religion in public life is to keep education high quality and mandatory, and to keep exposing religious chicanery and inhumanity. The British tendency to keep it quietly socially unacceptable, like smoking, is also a net positive force when they’re trying to import American brainwashing.

  5. That’s the church by my parents. About 20 years ago they told my mum they could cure her epilepsy. My mum is scatty to be put it nicely, and went into the church. I tried to persuade her, but she wouldn’t listen. They grabbed her by the head, and started shaking her until she started to go into a seizure. I lost it, and threatened to break their legs if they don’t let go. They did, and I got her out of there quick. They took over from a church that was directly responsible in the death of Victoria Climbie, whose parents were persuaded that she was possessed by the devil, and they killed her. When I was a kid, the church based there wasn’t so bad, it was infected by evangelical scumbags, and they would throw weekly BBQs for the community, where everyone would provide food or drink, and they’d cook it and put on entertainment. They never pushed their beliefs, everyone was welcome, it was a great idea.

  6. My complete surprise that organised religion is awful. No wonder people are leaving them. The more educated we get the more we leave the archaic systems of control behind us.

  7. I’m trying to remember is this the one that basically took over the local conservative party in a town in essex (muddled brain is saying brentwood but I might be wrong) in the late 90s?

I remember I think a deselected MP interviewed on the news saying unless you’re part of the church you won’t get selected?

From what I remember, it all seemed a bit fishy to me. I remember seeing big billboard adverts outside Rochford train station for them. When does a church put up bloody adverts?

Mind you I had friends who went to the local happy clappy church back then when I was an IT contractor. I used to point out to them their pastor had a more expensive car & house than I did. And had a conservatory built (the miracle of the conservatory I called it lol). And most of the people I knew that went were skint as anything. Still they would half jokingly lay hands on me and say god is calling you etc (they knew my views). but funnily enough when I went mad and penniless, that stopped… hmm…

and they had a ‘miracle board’ at the church where if people had a miracle they could write it down… friend used to tell me about stuff written on there it was hilarious

  8. The problem with religion is that it encourages faulty reasoning, abuse of power, a sense of superiority, rigid thinking and other things which, if you’re trying to understand the nature of our reality, is all extremely unhelpful.

Not to mention that the organised abrahamic religions are swarming with child abusers.

  9. The Pentecostal is a false Christian movement based on fake healings and prosperity preaching. This isn’t true to the Christian faith.
