“The embassy site includes ….. a Black Death ‘plague pit’…..”
This would be the perfect end of season twist to the covid storyline
As long as they have permission to be there, I see no violation.
Oh for God’s sake, just give them the Tower.
I, for one, welcome our new Oriental Overlords.
From past experience, I wish to make clear, this is a joke.
Aren’t most embassies in London in the large side for each country. The current site is a bit odd. If it looks ok architecturally then go ahead. It’s not going to make any material difference.
Can we just stop putting super in the name of everything?
Sunak claims the era of close ties with China are over. Let’s see where he stands on this and if he will intervene in any way.
I cannot support this. The Royal Mint Court is a historical building to London, it should be put into public hands, so on those grounds alone, I wouldn’t grant it to be any contries embassy.
But China in particular, head of the autocratic world, a country deemed to be a security threat, a country with no regard to human rights, should definitely not be getting a “super embassy”. As of late, The CCP has been running foreign “police stations” to spy on disadence and enemies of The CCP and kidnapping protesters, dragging them into consulate buildings and beating them. We definitely don’t need to give them a bigger building to do this from, especially since it’s near where a lot of protests happen. I support loosening our ties with China, I’d put them in a more modest building away from any government building.
With that said, as Briton is becoming more authoritarian, it makes sense to want to snuggle up with such a regime.
Also, while I’m here, I’d like to downsize The American Embassy to a modest building for similar reason.
“Can you imagine the French putting an embassy next to the Arc de Triomphe – of course you can’t!”

The directions literally say “walk back towards the arc”.
I’m not going through every country on planet Earth but presumably there are other embassies next to the arc de triomphe.
