Sounds awfully low. They probably still saved money on just dumping it instead of properly disposing of it.
Anglian Water, in the year to March 2021, paid out £96.3 million in dividends.
That was £96.3million UK citizens money spent on share holders **but not on UK infrastructure**.
privitising essential uk services and infrastructure, Who does it serve? Certainly not the UK population.
“Anglian Water customers fined £560k for sewage release.” Because profits are passed to shareholders, fines are passed to customers.
> It added that the pollution could been avoided had Anglian Water spent £205 on software for an early alarm system.
Have a bunch of zeros been missed out there, or are they really that tight?

I used to be the person who was in charge of the alarm system at Anglian Water for water recycling plants, so that’s strange to see. It picked up these issues all the time and I’d get someone out to the plant to sort it. I left years before 2018 but I wonder what happened to that software? Cuts or changing to a cheaper system I assume. I would have suspected user error as a more likely culprit, but I guess not with the courts pointing out this software.
> “We take our duty of care to the environment incredibly seriously .. and find it deeply distressing when incidents like this occur,” the company said.
Indeed, every time we get caught.
The people issuing the fine are as big of a joke as the amount.
It probably saved ten million by dumping it in the waterways so £560k will mean fuck all.
These aren’t fines.
They are just another business tax for these companies that earn 10s if not 100s of millions in profits.
The money from the fine definitely goes to preventing this in the future right….. right
Not surprised.
Anglican Water are scum. Attempting to move a water treatment plant to greenbelt so they can sell old site to make houses and make more money. No care for environmental impact. No care for the cost to the tax payer.
