> two healthcare workers die by suicide every week on average, while a doctor takes their own life once every three weeks.
This is a huge issue and it feels like it’s just being swept under the rug and not being discussed at all.
The amount of stress doctors and nurses face is just insane.
The era of NHS workers being heroes is long gone. Now, they are being blamed for the state of the NHS, despite propping it up at the risk of their own health for the worst parts of the pandemic. As bad as pay is, it will be the stress of the job that truly drives people out of the NHS. Love of the job only goes so far and we have exploited good will to breaking point. Things will get a lot worse if we refuse to listen to healthcare workers and their demands, with the NHS at real risk of collapsing in a year or two.
That seems, might I says, a tad disproportionate of a response…
It’s such a stressful job, and the pressure only keeps getting increased, as the NHS is falling apart. Truly an alarming state of affairs.
