Christ, I thought they talked of pub strikes for a second.
For all the “urging” the government has been doing for everyone to “get round the table” they sure are taking their sweet time. 2 weeks before the strikes start and the RMT have asked for talks with the rdg and the government all week to hammer out a deal.
They’ve set a date for Friday so clearly they aren’t that interested waiting over a week between meetings.

Painfully obvious that the bosses don’t care about their staff receiving tips, rather they care about their profits.
So aim these comments at the government not the workers demanding a fair wage
Can confirm, our Christmas meal has just been cancelled due to the train strikes
All those pub bosses getting awfully riled up that people are forcing companies to pay their staff fairly.
Can’t possibly think why.
It’ll only be rail workers that will be able to afford to have a Christmas meal at this rate
if train workers are so vital to the economy, their pay should reflect that.
we ALL support these strikes . stop trying so hard media
Then he needs to get himself on a picket line, and support the railway workers😉
pub bosss should realise nobody has money to spend in pub anymore
If only there were other means of transport, or even places to go out closer to home so you could walk back
Pay not keeping up with inflation will ruin more than that for a lot of train drivers. You can go one year without a Christmas party, rail staff don’t want to see their lives ruined by missed mortgage payments or unpaid bills.

Maybe a silly question but why don’t people support their local pub rather than needing to jump on a train?
He’s not wrong BUT hospitality workers wouldn’t have to worry if they be weren’t on zero hour contracts and didn’t need to rely on tips in the first place
Well there’s a general fair point raised – not everyone can get a huge pay raise. If everyone does, it will just fuel inflation further and we’re back to square one. I guess everyone agrees that someone on 150k doesn’t need a pay raise with too much urgency, but these people pay way smaller proportion of taxes than everyone seems to think – so really, it can’t be all solved by taking more from the rich. So I guess ultimately, I guess most people should get a raise but not quite at inflation level – though some professions like nurses and teachers are underpaid long term and would deserve an inflation level raise, even if it means some other state employees get less.
It’s true, if not enough people turn up, it’s curtains for the hospitality industry.
if your christmas plans involve dragging your kids to a pub, you have awful christmas plans, and it is of no fault to the staff who have left that your plans were “ruined”, they were ruined to begin with.
