Many public transport companies have that in their terms and conditions. Personally, I never printed anything, just showed them the PDF on my phone. Only once in many years had a discussion with a conductor who had bad eyes.
You used an app which most Austrians are not using to buy tickets.
My advice would be to use the ÖBB app. Either it will permit you to show the ticket in the app, or it will allow you to collect the printed ticket from any ÖBB train station ticket machine.
I’ve been using this app for tickets for buses and trams in multiple federal states without problems. And for Linz, it displayed the ticket in the app IIRC.
Here in Linz you can just go to the station and buy a Ticket at the orange “Automat”
If you have a qr code or similar on the pdf ticket, it should work out. The ticket that you get from the ticket machine at the station usually is nothing more than a qr code on a piece of paper.
I ve never even been asked for my Ticket since 4 years driving with trams. Same with Linz hbf to Plus City

Lol wut?
I mean it wouldn’t surprise me given how backwards how many people in that area are. But that’s still ridiculous, even for Austria.
Is that screenshot from a website or an App? Maybe the App doesn’t require printing (if there is one)?
They really wanna make it as difficult as possible for people to leave!
My guess it, that you will just get a PDF. That’s how I got my last ticket. I did not use Wegfinder, but the OEBB website.
Actually I found the FAQ, it really looks like one has to print the ticket [https://help.wegfinder.at/help/en-us/2-public-transport/13-does-the-ticket-need-to-be-printed](https://help.wegfinder.at/help/en-us/2-public-transport/13-does-the-ticket-need-to-be-printed)
This is ridicolous! I don’t even own a printer.
Use LinzMobil?
