Hello, I am an English speaker trying to transcribe this book about my family’s village into English and I’m running into translation issues. Could someone lend a hand please? Thank you in advance- info in comments!

  1. Hello! So this is the first page of 20 or so that I am trying to use Google translate to transcribe in English so I can understand the childhood in detail of my family. I ran into some issues so far:

    – Does the sentence talking about being alive at 5-6 months mention the baby being called a sucker and the baby’s hands/legs being shaven to prevent bending?
    – What pillow roll is being spoke of in the following sentence?
    – Can someone decipher or put into Better words the sentence regarding the “pacifier’s nails?” I don’t understand what they mean by this and I’ve been racking my brain.

    – Az 5-6 hónapos életben maradásról szóló mondat megemlíti, hogy a babát baleknak nevezik, és a baba kezét/lábait leborotválják, hogy ne hajoljon?
    – Milyen párnatekercsről van szó a következő mondatban?
    – Valaki meg tudja fejteni vagy jobb szavakkal fogalmazni a „cumi körmére” vonatkozó mondatot? Nem értem, mit értenek ezen, és törtem az agyam.

  3. Lefáslizták: Fásli means bandage. Think about the rolled bandage that you roll around an injury. They rolled their hands and legs with bandages (probably tightly) so it stays straight.

    The last part about the nails: The baby’s nails shouldn’t be cut with scissors, it needed to be bitten off by its mother while breastfeeding.

    Or something along those lines.

  5. I was in that village a few times. My grandmother’s sister lives there and I spent a summer there when I was like 12 yrs old.
