Ferries Scandal: Shipyard takeover ‘wasted’ £200m of public money

  1. It’s a shocking indictment of that state of our politics and governance that I saw a headline about 200 million being wasted and thought ‘That’s pretty low for a Government project, why are we even talking about it’?

Also, hilarious to see the anti-Scot government bias in the BBC reporting here.

Lets take the current Mone case, the BBC [reported that](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/63746930) with this headline:

“Labour questions PPE contract award and Baroness Mone links”

Which for the severity of it all, sounds pretty innocent right? Party in opposition questions a contract.

    Then we have this situation

    >Ferries **Scandal**: Shipyard takeover **’wasted’ £200m of public money**

How emotive of them! Lets look at the contents of the article, this is surely a done and dusted case of fraud right?

    >Former Ferguson boss Jim McColl has claimed ministers wasted £200m by rejecting an offer

So, somebody who isn’t even a part of the Government is claiming ministers wasted money by rejecting an offer that they made

I wonder what the reason could be.

    >The government said Mr McColl’s proposal breached EU state aid rules.

    Oh.

    But no fear

    >Mr McColl gave details of the offer, including legal advice that it was compliant with EU rules

So apparently he got legal advice that is was fine and his argument is

    >”If the government had received an independent opinion confirming it was legal, and accepted the proposal it would have saved at least £200 million of taxpayers money.”

    **If**

This certainly all seems very up in the air and in debate for such an emotively worded headline.
