Not allowed rentals are BAD everyone must own a gaff
Those big apartment buildings in London can house up to 1000 people. Even if you just built 5 of them in Dublin alone it would make a MASSIVE difference
Govt. should enact some emergency legislation that would allow them to block any local or council objection because this is a fucking emergency
How can they rent it at cost when rental income is taxed? Is it because they are rented by a charity so are tax exempt? If it is then that’s going to be abused by every developer in Ireland by the end of the year

Subsidised rentals might be more accurate. They get the land for free.
I’m got approved for one of these places (not in Stepaside). The initial conditions are a bit strict (mainly the net income for of under 53k whether you’re a single person or a couple) but it took a lot of stress off for finding a new place. Got decent value in the current market for a new a-rated 2 bed apartment for 1200 which allowed myself and my partner to finally move in together.
There’s a lot to be desired on housing policy but this is one of the good ones. It just needs to be expanded imo.
Is there an easy way to find the final planning application and supporting documents for this? Main planning search pages aren’t great for finding stuff.
Too bad I’m subsidising them through my taxes but don’t qualify to rent 🙁
27 new builds were bought by Cluid near where i live this year, I was hoping they would of been sold so I could have bought one but they were all sold to Cluid, I seen the prices they paid, approx 190/ 200k for a 2 bed 220/230 for 3 bed, mixture of townhouses and apartments, would of been perfect with a FTB. This year a new estate is been built 50 feet away, prices starting at 340k for 3 bed..I understand Cluid/Respond fly under the banner as being not for profit and is suitable for people to rent in some instances but why cant someone like myself buy a house at this price without having to compete with these NFP organisations, why cant they build there own just like in this article
Only four stories, those are rookie numbers
We could build anything but NIMBYism fucks us everytime.
Nothing can be built because everyone wants it built somewhere else.
These should be all over the city center, replacing those archaic cottages.
1200.
Why so far away???
This along with affordable housing is what the government’s focus should be on rather than social housing. Providing homes at reasonable rates for honest hard working people who can’t afford to buy/rent due to the current market rather than handing out free houses to people who have zero interest in working.
Shame that the apartments have been swamped with raids from the garda multiple times for potential drug dealing and other issues, anytime I’m in there the bang of weed from some the apartments is insane!
Not a single solar panel on those roofs. Should be refused planning permission without them
It’s really unfair to only to those below 53k
All of us pay taxes, ffs…
They (Darragh O’Brien and Dept of Housing) want to build a shitload of them absolutely everywhere but literally can’t get the labour, plus local authorities keep slowing everything down. There are some institutional problems too with the nature of the contracts that builders don’t like, so they gravitate towards commercial work and not OPW work.
There was like half a billion left over in the Housing budget this year, so it’s not a lack of money.
The idea is to get to the Vienna Model.
3 bed in ballyfermot asking 325 already at 450
Why aren’t more of these being made in Dublin? Who has a problem with this? And why?
Should be twice the height, but yes.
Ever hear of one of capitalism creations, the private sector? This is where people work and pay for services without looking for state handouts. Kinda how the housing market works too.
