Finnish active population is rapidly shrinking as the larger age groups have / are being retired, life expectancy has increased and younger generations are smaller. This makes Finnish social-welfare and other systems unsustainable. This is already today reflected in the very high taxation levels and the inability to get sufficient trained workforce to the social and welfare sector. A common solution from certain parties is to increase the social-welfare and other public sector’s salaries by further increasing taxes, taking more debt or selling state property. Reducing the public sector is politically difficult / impossible in Finland. However, the more workforce is allocated to the public sectors, the less will be available for the private sectors. Private sector is at the end of the day the engine growing the size of the “pie”.
Long term goal should be to resolve the age pyramid issue by either getting more babies or by increasing immigration. In the short term there is the need to attract the right type of immigrants to resolve the labor market shortages. Finnish structural labor market issues cause at the same time unemployment and labor shortages….
Immigration is really a problem in finland. We dont have resources to take freeloaders and there is too much criminals coming here. Not all immigrants are criminals but there is too much bad apples
Immigration will always have problems, however Finns Party has absolutely zero rational solutions, all they have are ideological solutions that always suck at solving practical problem.
The problems are not huge, and the rhetoric you will hear is “something bad is going to happen, soon™”, the same thing they have said for decades. They are right wing populists, immigration is their only consistent topic. As right wing populist their greatest strength is to point out problems that do or do not exist. Their supporters see no difference between those two.
What is very clear is that we need immigration. And that is something they do not really want to talk about, they are much more interest vetting certain people out… regardless if they are immigrants or citizens..
Well there is immigration and immigration.
They are calling for hard line for humanitarian based immigration. By their rethoric it means those who’ll just leech welfare benefits for the rest of their lives, form isolated communities with their own culture, do crimes and cause general unrest. Mainly these are from around horn of Africa or middle east.
There is a kernel of truth here. In the homogenous society of Finland we’ll all try to make most of ourselves, but if one should fail, others will carry you on in form of social welfare safety nets. However, the nets can hold only so many.
All parties agree that actual job based immigration is good, i.e. you come here, live by your own means and want to integrate.
Of course
Mainly for the immigrants…
This is basically you asking are you voting Perussuomaiset(The Finns party) or the other? aka do you support “hate speech”?

Well how would I put this “politically correct”. In my opinion “The Fins Party” can just suck it. They are populists without any real solutions or proposals to fix this.
Good that our constitutions 6 § 1 “momentti” (moment?) says all people are equal. So even if they would get into government, it will be similar shits show and head banging to constitution like it was in “Rehti Juha’s” government.
Also it would really easily also lead to same kind of classification to worthy and non-worthy people inside “native” population when that would usable excuse for solving what ever employment or social security cots issues.
A Pandora’s box better left closed for ever.
Yes there are problems with immigration I don’t deny it. There are immigrants for who one can assign legit blame with the known arguments of The Finns Party. It’s quite minor part of immigrant population and minority of native population has same problems.
Then there are shit load of small companies one can blame right out to be racist, they do not even want to consider immigrants as work force for them.
How to fix all this? Well that I do not know, but I know for sure The Finns Party does not have means to fix this.
It’s a necessity
I actually don’t mind immigration, as long as those people try to integrate, get a job and support themself.
I also agree that we should help the ones in need.
But I do also think, that if you give too much on helping others, you are going to need help sooner or later.
What I’m saying is, We need to slow down, Help those who are already here to integrate, and weed out the bad apples before we can continue.
There is plenty of good immigrants, There are plenty of good refugees. but on some districts when yuo go to school, there are classes where Finns who’s ancestary can be followed couple generations down and still are Finns are a minority.
I do say that there is problem now, It is not a huge problem, but it’s expanding. and we should deal with it now. before it’s too late.
And I do know immigrants, and refugees who have integrated here, who think the same way.
Migrated Dane living in Tampere.
Let me start of by confirming that I’m actually onboard with the notion of that immigrants should integrate into society quickly and sustain themselves economically.
Coming from a country with roughly same amount of inhabitants, and close in geographic distance, it’s quite easy to draw comparisons.
Hence I find it kind of silly what Purra and Co. are trying to do, play the immigration card like it either is a problem or might be in the future.
Finlands ratio of immigrants relative to population size is minuscule compared to its Nordic neighbors, and even smaller in terms of immigration from areas which assimilate harder(middle eastern/Africa).
Having been raised in the town in Denmark with the 2nd highest immigrant population, and having travelled Finland extensively over 8 years, I can honestly say that your immigration “issues” are not even in the vicinity of what Denmark and Sweden has, nor is the outlook pointing in that direction.
Well🤷 sweden is a good example ! Do we want the same problems here ? No we dont !
We neeeeeeed immigration so badly. There is not a big enough tax base to continue the pension structure for the next 40 years and our birth rate won’t support it.
Figuring out how to attract immigrants and keep immigrants should be one of the main goals for any serious political party.
Honestly who cares about the minor drag on social resources, IF the immigration system also provides a tax base that replaces that.
The more important and harder problem is a) how do you fully integrate the first generation of kids that arise from all (voluntary and humanitarian) immigration, and how do you make easy pathways for highly skilled immigration that is not just “make an English bubble”
The Finns party is just blabbing culture war nonsense for easy votes, they don’t have a real solution.
