From a geo-political standpoint the UK does need to move away from oil, as quickly as possible.
We are beholden to far too many dodgy multinationals and awful dictatorships like Saudi Arabia.
We need renewables, plenty of them and quickly and government backed backed incentives to switch to electric cars.
Of course that wont happen with the Tories, they are morally bankrupt, corrupt and generally clueless.
But maybe you could try inconveniencing the people who can actually make a change?
Some people like myself don’t get guaranteed salary and we can’t WFH. If I don’t get to work on time or at all I don’t get paid for it and if y’all hadn’t noticed life’s getting real expensive rn.

Have they not got themselves into a “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” situation here.
If the government gives them what they want, it just shows that these tattics work?

Surely they make their group impossible to concede to by doing things like this? Wouldn’t it set the precedent that this sort of thing is a legitimate protest, meaning future groups who may be a lot less cutesy than middle class students blocking the road will use the same tactics?
Really any cause with 30 people could cause a hell of a lot of damage with these tactics.
Fusion will solve global warming. It is clean carbonless and powerful. It produces no readioactive waste and is a perfectly natural process. There are several prototypes in operation but China will have the first and will not tell anyone.
Honestly these people lost what little favour they managed to drum up when their bridge-sitting led to the preventable deaths of two innocent people.

I see people suggesting in this thread that they should inconvenience the people in power and not us…the point is you are in power. Vote to change things that will genuinely benefit the planet and its people, not just profits.
It just seems dangerous, they’re increasing the likelihood of getting hit by traffic for themselves.

Government keeps a blind eye, because they can use for their own purposes – as a dead cat or as an excuse to introduce laws thwarting the right to protest.
Leading to lots of cars moving very slowly in a low gear and therefore using more fuel less effeciently.

These protesters must be very well off or come from rich families to be able to devote so much time to stopping other people getting to work. Sure it going to affect the poorest workers who can’t afford to miss a pay check but it will clearly force the government to stop oil.

Maybe a stupid question. But what are they actually doing to change or solve anything? I think we all agree that climate change is an issue which needs addressing, but it’s not like we can just come off oil all at once just like that. If anything wouldn’t we need to transition away from it to renewable energy sources, since many people still heavily depend on coal oil and gas and would have no other option but to freeze, not travel and not be able to support themselves otherwise?
Also it would seem kind of hypocritical if the things they’re using like the glue they stick themselves to the ground with is not resourced in an environmentally friendly manner.
It just doesn’t look good to me and seems kind of self righteous that a bunch of middle class protestors are protesting in a way which only seems to affect regular people, preventing them from going to school, work, hospitals etc. and they’ll just be branded a nuisance by many.
I doubt the government will really listen unless the protest directly affected them. Again I can get behind the message of climate change being a real problem, I’m just not sure I can get behind the way they’re doing things or want things to be done. Sorry for the long comment.

Employees like working 16 hours a day. If we had to pay them a minimum wage and give them safe working conditions as then the factory will go out of business.
They like being slaves, they appreciate being civilised.
In 20/50/100 years time we’re going to be thinking of the anti-oil protest critics the same way we think of people that were against women’s, workers and human rights.
In other words these pos are still refusing to do anything that affects the life of anyone at the top, ie the ONLY people able to do anything
