Wolf that killed von der Leyen’s pony to be shot

  1. Whenever a wolf steps into Germany it will eventually end up getting shot.

We should start giving them maps, so they know to avoid the country.

  2. This news will really help farmers in the Netherlands who are eager to shoot wolves but have been forbidden to do so. It took 150 years to get wolves back and a wealthy bureaucrat from Brussels being exempt from this is perfect for the re-extinction of wolves. Great Job!

  3. I wish people like vdR from political, aristocratic families would come to power less often in modern democracies.

The unchanging political elite is one of the major problems of democracy that we have to face.

  4. In Romania wolves and bears have been coexisting with livestock for centuries. Good sheep guarding dogs are the solution, not shooting a wolf for doing something that comes naturally.

  5. Seriously, there’s something wrong with boomers and I wait for the day till this generation will start coming to the end.

If I was rich, and had a pony, and the pony would be eaten by wolf, then well – Happens. This is the way of nature. I can afford a new pony, but can the wolf afford being hungry? I don’t think so.

Hope she gets the hate for that, because this is stupidity. Shows true colors of some “pro-eco” people.

  6. This possibility is now also used by the Hanover region against GW950m (edit: the number of said wolf) : “A species protection exemption was applied for and checked according to the legal requirements. These are met,” Christina Kreutz, spokeswoman for the regional administration, told taz on Friday. “The animal has torn numerous farm animals. A total of 13 kills are registered, which are attributed to the animal. In particular, sheep were affected, but also cattle and a horse,” Kreutz said. The permit was issued in October and has since been valid for the male until Jan. 31, 2023, he said. The question of whether the reason for the shooting permit was the attack on von der Leyens pony, the spokeswoman left unanswered.
The country Lower Saxony had set GW950m already 2021 on the shooting list, it deleted however few weeks later again of it, after another animal of the herd had been shot. One wanted to see only once whether the herd tears after the first shooting less farm animals, said a spokeswoman of the Ministry of the Environment on Friday of the taz.

  7. How is it that most farmers can invest in raising livestock dogs, specifically bred to protect livestock and deter predators?

But one dead pony, and now we allow killing of wolves again?

  8. What an absolute bullshit. The bitch is sad about her pony and now wolves are bad! We keep farm animals and kill them by the billions and half goes to waste. The wolf was doing what he was built for.. as many other mentioned there are many solutions to this problem instead of labeling it a problem wolf and shooting it. Even if the wolf attacks a human I’d want to see proof that it was out of nothing before labeling it a problem wolf

  9. Destroy their natural habitat, take the little bit of land and forest they have left and when they inevitably interact with us, shoot them! Eco-friendly, green European values, yay!

  10. I guess one pony can overturn a keystone species protected status, because it was owned by a powerful person. If this is what it means to have an ever closer union, maybe I don’t want it?

  11. Its possible for farm animals and wolves to coexist, but once they do kill them they are usually put down. I am starting to think that no one in this comment section has ever seen a cow, so i have doubts over their insights on this matter.

  12. A short notice:

The wolf in question already killed 13 other lifestock animals and was to be put down before this particular pony was killed. In the end, it’s a coincidence, but has no greater meaning or implication for policy in Germany or Europe.

  13. There’s a lot of whining townies in this thread complaining about evil farmers wanting to kill harmless ickle wolfies, it’s hilarious. I would suggest that an animal big enough and aggressive enough to kill cattle and a pony (unless it is a very small pony) is a threat to just about anything.

  14. There is a German sub called r/PferdeSindKacke (Horses are shit) which takes any kind of news about horses and posts it with a caption that frames the horse as the absolute worst. This story was covered as “Wolf carries out God’s mission”
