I should have been a consultant doctor for the HSE.
I suspect these paid sabbatical are to actually go off somewhere else to learn about advanced techniques and then bring them home for their patients. Think of the local surgeon going to the Mayo clinic to learn new technqiues for cancer surgery or to train on the Da Vinci robot
I guess the proof will be in the pudding in this. Either the new contract, historical failure to implement contract conditions and policing of contracts, and most importantly of all, working conditions and rosters in public hospitals, will see a successful recruitment of either Irish or non irish consultants from abroad or not. The same applies to those holding old contracts switching.
