Just saw this and I really want to know the context for people being in the lake.
E: Replies to this have cemented why you should not listen to gossip on the internet.
I do hope they are ok
Kids out on the ice. It broke. Adults have gone in too. Reports suggest one person still missing.
We are not fish, just stay out the poxy water it isn’t worth it
Ps also don’t stand on frozen water, we aren’t polar bears

Kids went playing on the ice fell in friends tried to help fell in aswell then adults tried to help it’s all that’s on Facebook at the moment b37 updates on fb
Do not go on frozen bodies of water and teach your children not to do it. I come from a country with proper winters and it takes months of freezing weather before the ice is thick enough to walk on. It’s never freezing for long enough in the UK for it to be safe.

Saw this and thought that the people were complaining, rather than in critical condition. Damn nanny state not letting me drown in freezing water…

Cold water shock is no joke – most people have no idea how dangerous it will be.
When I was a kid. I’m thinking 12 to 14 can’t quite remember. I once did this on a local pond. Very stupid. Very lucky nothing happened.
Live in Solihull and I know the exact lake they would’ve gone on. My dog walked on it once and luckily it was thick enough for him but we’re talking 2009-2010 so it would’ve been much colder.
Never seen the fascination with the lake frozen myself, seems like you’re stacking the odds of survival against you
Just seen the press conference on the news, could really see the strain on the police, fire&rescue and ambulance service reps faces. This will have been traumatic for a lot of people, even if the four children survive, which hopefully they do. They’re still searching the lake. Hopefully the reports of extra people weren’t true, they refused to comment on the credibility, said they were searching still but no chance anyone still in could survive
Winters like this might become commonplace thanks to climate change. It seems like we might have another safety issue to worry about in response to changing conditions that we are not used to. We’re going to have heatwaves and cold snaps testing the nation’s commonsense from now on.
I legitimately read this as people who were criticising the way they had been pulled out of the river
I simply can’t fathom going anywhere near a lake in this weather. And please could ALL dog owners leash their dogs? The scenario of a dog owner getting into peril whilst trying to save their pet [in a river/lake] is totally avoidable, in these conditions one or both of them may die. Please do not let this happen!
Does anyone know how old they were? I’d like to know because a lotta sources aren’t giving a source
I never wanted to stand on a frozen lake since I saw Harry Potter dive into an icy lake and by the time he swam back up it was frozen solid again.
I grew up in the North East and every winter ponds and lakes would freeze over. We would spend hours skating on them and saw no danger in it. Gosh, if only we’d known.
I know it has been cold for a little while in the UK, but nowhere near cold enough or for long enough to be on a lake.
Hell, I wouldn’t do it here right now (Stockholm) where it has been negative temperatures (mostly -4 to -6) constantly for two or three weeks and is supposed to be dropping to -12 overnight in a couple of days.
This is down the road from me. Know someone who has lost their kid. Absolutely horrifying.
I’ve got so many nice memories from that lake/walk. This is gonna forever taint them.
I live around there and whilst it’s been cold knowing that lake there is no way it’s been cold enough to freeze the water enough to walk on, it’s too big and deep for that yet.
But is just guesswork at the moment as no one knows really what happened
I was with a couple of friends and one saw this and mentioned it. Her boyfriend asked what they were doing on a frozen lake and she was like, “Oi, that’s victim blaming!”
Honestly that title makes it sound like they were just complaining a lot.
So where do we hear about the being that was pulled from the lake?
Was it seen drinking Baileys from a shoe?
Solihull is in the West Midlands, btw, not Lancashire?
Man I’m an idiot. I thought the title meant that people were being critical of the act of being pulled out of a lake.
Flowers being laid, and blue police tent set up at the lake, not looking good.
“Three boys aged 10, 11 and eight, have died after
falling into an icy pond in Solihull, police have
said.
The boys were among four rushed to hospital in
cardiac arrest after the incident at Babbs Mill Park
on Sunday afternoon. It is feared two others may
still be in the lake, but police have warned it is
“no
longer a search and rescue operation””
