How does this thing work?

  1. You need a day/night rate tariff, this will turn the immersion on for a set amount of time to take advantage of cheaper electricity. You can use the boost function to bring the temp up if there has been a lot of hot water used but this will use day rate electric prices which are generally more expensive.

  2. Magic.

No in all seriousness I used to have one of these and could never figure it out apart from the boost function. Even had a plumber out to fix it once and he couldn’t explain it to me

  3. When it’s flicked to timed it switches to the clock to heat the water at night. The summer time and winter time arrows just indicate the optimum time depending on if the clocks have went forward or back. Probably good to turn it off and use the boost function if you don’t use hot water in the evenings. 120 stands for 2 hours of heating water which is good for at least 2 showers. Nightmare to figure out

  4. I just got one of those installed in our apartment a few weeks ago and I haven’t a clue. I just wake up and have hot water

  5. I used to have one when I rented. Basically the heating on the big timer is hard set to come on between 5am – 9am so you have hot water in the mornings and its the “optimum time to heat water” If you need hot water any other time in the day, use the Boost knob. It winds back as far as 120 minutes and ticks down. If you need a shower or hot water in general in the evening you better pre-emptively wind the boost back for 30 minutes or so before using it.

  6. * OK, that will heat your water when it’s cheaper to do so, using the low rate tariff.
    * You need to set the correct time in the `SUMMER TIME/WINTER TIME` dial. This is your current time right now.

In theory, this is how it works.

    1. Set the clock.
    2. Set `WATER HEATER` to `TIMED`. This will make it heat when energy is cheap.
    3. Use hot water as usual.
    4. **If no hot water**, force it to turn on at high power by using the `BOOST` dial.
    1. For showers, set to 30 or 45 minutes, wait 30 or 45 minutes and then have a quick shower.

What I do here, though, I leave it off all the time. And simply set the boost to 3o or 45 minutes when I need hot water.
