How much would it cost to regenerate the frankly laughable rail network across the north? Nothing even close to that I’ll bet, but the people who make the funding decisions are all in London so this is the situation we’re in.
I’m surprised northerners don’t protest along the lines of Just Stop Oil against the transport network in the South East until they get their fair share of investment. I’d have a bit more sympathy for that.
It’s interesting to see a bit of momentum for the idea, though I’m doubtful of any change happening which doesn’t directly benefit London.
Perhaps proportional representation and other electoral reforms could rebalance the power relationship between London and the North.
Some solutions need to be found before the ‘United’ bit in ‘United Kingdom’ becomes completely a lie.
London despises the proles in the North. Always have done. Always will.
There are very good reasons why England (and the whole British isles)became so Londoncentric, and has been since time before England even existed. So many that whole books can be written on the matter.
London and the South East have a huge population and is “the goose that lays the golden eggs” where the whole British economy is concerned. It’s only right that it sees greater spending than the North.
For the record, I live in the North of England, but I made my money in London.

How much did crossrail cost again? 25 Billion?
