We need more content like this imo. The country is in such a bad state and has such a depressingly bad, corrupt government that it’s hard to remember some of the nicer things about it. Thanks for sharing.
Just “Windermere” – the “mere” in the name already means “lake”. Lake Windermere therefore means “Lake Lake Winder”
There’s only actually one Lake (Lake Bassenthwaite) in the Lake District. The rest are Waters, Meres, Tarns, Reservoirs etc. That little fact occasionally comes in handy for a pub quiz, so file it away in your “useless information for pub quizzes” section of your brain
