What a disgrace about nothing. It’s disgusting how parliament has been reduced to a kindergarten. They fully know those messages were taken out of context, and they know damn well how the formal approval process works, yet they try to convince the population otherwise. What an embarrassment.
Ik zie het niet echt als een grap. Ongeacht wat de mening is over alle partijen: stel dat hij heeft gelogen, dan is dat toch een grens te ver? Nee? Of vinden we dat allemaal gewoon ok?
Ik zeg niet dat het sowieso een feit is, maar het is alvast minder hoopgevend voor hem dat ‘Knack’ erop springt in plaats van HLN.
Also: jaja, ik ben niet naïef, liegen zal wel vaker gebeuren, maar moet criminaliteit dan toegelaten worden omdat het niet altijd werd betrapt?
Communicating government business on WhatsApp is a scandal of it’s own imo.
Aight I think this is a very difficult matter. N-VA actually did some good opposition work in controlling the government (barring that they pulled the same stunt themselves years ago, but that’s beside the matter, probably). Everyone knew De Bleeker was a sacrificial lamb, but that’s the function of being in the Executive: you take responsibility for mistakes your department makes.
However, the N-VA is now interpreting this newly found text as ‘agreeing with the entirety of the budget’ instead of ‘agreeing with a small detail they double checked’. This is fundamentally not the same. However again, this does not mean De Croo didn’t omit some details or was expressly vague in his “testimony” (not the correct legal term but can’t think of an English alternative).
De Croo defo was ultimately politically (not personally) responsible and De Bleeker payed for it. Unfair, but I could care less. Political responsibility is a fickle thing and neither are personally to blame. N-VA did some inherently good work here, but now they’re pushing their luck by basically fabricating an entirely new meaning for those texts, spinning a false narrative for the entire country by themselves. De Croo overplayed his hand by shifting responsibility to De Bleeker, and if he did not lie, he at the very least didn’t choose to speak the entire truth.
It’s a mud fight and everyone is getting dirty.

Als hij echt gelogen had, hadden zijn coalitiepartners dit ook ondervonden. Die klagen nergens over, dus nva is gewoon weer wat sensatie aan het maken.
NVA pulling the same disgusting pre-election stunt as always. Destroy your opponent whatever the cost may be to our democracy. Same thing as when they left the government a few months before elections because the prime minister went to a fucking climate conference against their will. They just do it so they can spend the next few months yelling that the current government is the most disgraceful thing that’s ever existed.
They don’t know how to win on policy so they win on pretending to be the underdog, burning the house down and hoping they’ll be the ones left standing at the end.
Of course, the added bonus is that they can argue that the Belgian government is chaotic and we need confederalism or separation, since no one will remember that the chaos was actually their making. If these are the worst things they can come up with about our prime ministers, i’m much more worried about their constant willingness to break down our governments than about what our prime ministers might be doing wrong.

From reading all the comments I must conclude that all the remaining voters of OVLD are now residing on this subreddit.
Do you guys also feel that asking for someone’s resignation has lost all power and value? I remember hearing stuff like that in the past and thinking “wow, shit has really hit the fan”, but nowadays it seems like there is no investigation anymore and a resignation is the first thing that is demanded, regardless of what the issue is.
Sorry, maar dit is echt te achterlijk voor woorden.
In HLN stond een screenshot van de bewuste passage. De berichten ervoor gaan over aanpassingen in verband met Farma en SZ, en voor die aanpassingen wordt akkoord gegeven.
Dat journalisten mee gaan in het gespin van de oppositie om in deze passage een akkoord voor de totale begroting te lezen zegt meer over de sensatiezucht van de journalisten dan over De Croo.
En dat de oppositie ons voorhoud dat dit een smoking gun is kan 1 van de volgende zaken betekenen:
1) De politici die ons dit voor houden denken dat wij achterlijk zijn.
2) de politici die ons dit voorhouden zijn achterlijk en denk dat wij even achterlijk zijn.
My money is on option 2
Wa als we nu gewoon… hear me out. Elke partij kiest 1 mannelijk en 1 vrouwlijk lid.
Deze worden in 1 grote arena gedropped. Wapens overal. En wie het laatste leeft, die mag het land besturen.

The fact that het rekenhof can’t verify the budget for the second year in a row, because it’s bullshit (paraphrasing here). Should be reason enough for the ruling government to lay down its mandate.

Laten we gewoon stoppen met politiek. Er zijn tegenwoordig andere manieren om een democratie te hebben zonder de corruptie.
The ruling parties are all afraid of the voter. So this won’t pass. But in my opinion, if Vooruit really wants to steal voters from VB they have to end Vivaldi now. For each day that Vivaldi continues the chance of VB winning the elections increases.
Alee.. de N-VA, PVDA of VB dienen een motie van wantrouwen in.

What a lot of people miss is that there was about 1,5 miljard difference between what the PM preciously expected. That’s like the one thing that should pop out right, a 1,5 miljard difference?!
Either the PM is lying or grossly incompetent, playing with our money like it’s nothing.
Also, using WhatsApp for these communications?!
These days you could fart a bit too loud and some politician would ask for your resignation.
