Buying F-35s is arguably not ideal, a European-produced plane would have been ideal. IIRC models with similar capabilities exist, but I guess it would be questionable if these would have been immediately available. Can’t exactly wait on a production time of 2 years with the current domestic and foreign pressure towards (re-)buildup. (Though of course that’s just more reason to take EU-domestic military R&D more seriously, to avoid such issues in the future.)
