  1. Not much of a choice elsewhere. Unfortunately.

Looking like the German air hangars – this is still better than tents in Clare. Fix the system, reduce appeals, streamline deportations so we can focus on those with claims found to be legitimate.

  2. Maybe I’m just easy pleased but that looks all right to me. Maybe wouldn’t swap my current accommodation for it but if I was homeless or escaping a war I think that would do me rightly.

  3. Clean, warm, dry, a bed. Communal bathroom facilities, communal living/dining, communal kitchen. Spent 4 months of 1st lockdown in a foreign country in such ‘conditions’, everybody got along, even the crackhead.

  4. This looks fine to me, it’s emergency shelter not a forever home. People are actually paying mad money for moldy hovels here.

  5. It’s not ideal, but at least it’s warm and dry. Far better than sleeping in a tent or rough on the street.

Really the main thing is that people shouldn’t have to be in there long, *if* the system was working as it ought to be. That’s what really needs fixing in the end.

  6. If I were fleeing a war zone I’d be damn glad of that for my family. Everybody understands that it’s not ideal. The people are being provided with shelter, food, education, safety, security etc. We can’t provide basic housing for our own citizens.

It’s ingrates like the person making the video who give refugees a bad name.

  7. Struggling to see the problem with being offered a roof over your head and a clean bed. Some people are so fucking ungrateful. If it’s emergency accommodation you’re getting then maybe don’t expect the Hilton love? There’s people sleeping on the streets, on friends couches and their cars who’d probably love to stretch out in a bed of their own.

  8. Looks like it could be cleaned and organized a bit better which is what I would be doing if I lived there.
I know when I moved abroad I lives In worse.Stayed in hostels with 10 to a room in bunk beds or the first place I rented was a rooming house and I had a tiny “bedroom” with no furniture and shared a toilet with 6 other people on my floor.

It’s not ideal,it’s not lavish but it’s warm, safe which is the main thing.

  9. Free roof and bed? Free food? If you’ve an issue with it, don’t come here so. My god almighty, there are homeless here in Ireland that would love the stability of these conditions for awhile but they wouldn’t be offered it due to health conditions, alcohol issues etc. If I was fleeing a war, I wouldn’t be complaining with this… expect a hotel is it? 🙈

  10. Man this video is actually quite upsetting to watch and listen to. I completely get that this is basic accommodation and isn’t exactly 5 star but on my way home from work I walked by 3 homeless people sat in the cold with only a sleeping bag and backpack to their name. Then opening reddit and seeing someone comparing free and perfectly fine accommodation to “jail” is genuinely upsetting to me tbh.

  11. Probably will be downvoted for this but in fairness , it’s short term emergency accommodation it’s not going to be a five star hotel. I know people who are paying €500 a month excluding bills and food, working full time and just about scraping by just for a bed in a house often not in the best conditions but are so desperate there is nothing else available. There’s Irish people dying on the street, no government assistance, living in tents who would absolutely be delighted to have some proper shelter and a warm bed in this weather. The person in the video says where is the privacy ? Have them homeless people on the streets their home being a tent that can’t even keep the rain or cold out, quite literally freezing to death in this weather tell you about privacy !!! Some people are so beyond ungrateful it’s actually sickening. Truly baffling ..

  12. I’ve paid mad money to stay in worse hostels for months at time with 4x other people if you wanna talk about privacy. Actually starting to properly resent these types.
