  1. Ofwat can’t really be called a regulator anymore, can it. Best to bin it and set up a new, truly independent regulatory authority with sweeping powers to bring the water barons into line with swingeing fines and/or extra corporate control.

  2. Dear Mr Sharkey. Thanks so very much for your constant attention to this. It is gathering momentum and I hope they will be called to proper account eventually. If so, it will be thanks in no small part to your efforts – rather than to any existing regulation.

  3. When the ‘punishment’ either never comes or is some minor fine, these private companies will continue to behave this way.

  4. It’s almost like privatising a basic resource which is needed both for life and all economic activity was a bad idea.

  5. Trillions of water lost due to leaks in the system.

Remember that next time youre told to let your veg patch die during the next hosepipe ban.

Yes I know watering cans exist but there are millions of examples of where they arent practical.

  6. Demand for water is inelastic so water firms have no incentive to do anything expect squeeze every last penny in dividends from the paying customers. Cut costs and increase fees all to maximize Tory shareholder value.
