It’s sad how the EU care more about regulating the tech industry instead of actually growing it.
Free speech warrior, my ass. Typical far-right bullshit. It’s only free speech, if Musk approves of it. Musk doesn’t give a fuck about free speech. He’s a bigger narcissist than Trump. He only cares about his fragile ego.
He deleted the Twitter account that tracks his jet, even though a month ago he said he wouldn’t do it, because of free speech. And now he’s even suing the guy behind it.
And he deleted the video where he got booed by a crowd at a Dave Chappelle show.
The guy is the next Trump. But with money, and he actually owns Twitter. Which makes him more dangerous. He uses it as a propaganda tool to spread disinformation, just like any other far-right moron. If Musk’s Twitter gets banned in the EU, it’s a victory.
And the FTC, and the California AG. Really its impressive.
musk will soon understand that the eu doesn’t need twitter, but twitter needs the eu. it has been proven time and time again. eu makes the rules, if you want to play follow the rules.
In the end social media should have the same responsibility and penalties as broadcast media as it reaches just as many people if not more, plus it has additional risks due to the possibilities such as cyber bullying, micro-targetted advertising, “invisible” influence (e.g. someone can run a campaign that only vulnerable people see so it’s harder to police). and so on.
So once a platform gets over a certain number of users it needs a “broadcast” license and its directly regulated.
After that you hit Twitter or other abusers in the wallet as needed for any social costs they create; e.g. spreading disinformation = $$$ per user who saw that disinformation. Massive massive fines like 3% of turnover can be applied as is done in case of GDPR. Eventually suspend the social-broadcast license for repeated violations.
The widespread use of social media including by public institutions for both PR and for informative reasons, in my opinion, means we cannot simply treat these as simple tech or entrepreneurship, but we should treat these things like public utilities.
Running water, electricity, internet and access to social media platforms should be free of charge and accessible to all. I find it insane we’re still charging people for basic parts of modern day life, treating these as normal free market goods to be exchanged.
I’d love for the EU to shut twitter down in Europe. What would The Fat African do then?
Lost in court yesterday btw:
Twitter must take stronger action against illegal contentTwitter must not only delete offending tweets, but also those with “core-similar” content, according to a ruling. Otherwise, it faces heavy fines or even imprisonment.
Frankfurt Regional Court: if a tweet is classified as illegal, Twitter must also delete other postings with “core-similar” content in the future. If a tweet is classified as illegal, Twitter must in future also delete other postings with “core-similar” content.
Twitter’s handling of illegal content is too lax, according to the Frankfurt Regional Court. The short message service must not only permanently remove offending tweets, but also those with “core-similar” content, the court ruled.
The same applies to illegal content that is redistributed more than ten times within 24 hours. In the event of culpable infringement, a fine of 250,000 euros per case may be imposed, according to the court. In addition, managers could be ordered to be held in custody. The social media platform can still appeal the decision.According to the court, if a tweet is classified as illegal and removed in the future, Twitter must independently check whether other tweets with the same statements exist on the platform.
These would then also have to be deleted. However, this does not imply a general monitoring obligation for all tweets.Twitter user had insinuated anti-SemitismIn the specific case, the anti-Semitism commissioner of Baden-Württemberg, Michael Blume, had applied for a temporary injunction.
Among other things, another Twitter user had insinuated anti-Semitism against him. According to Blume’s lawyer Chan-jo Jun, the proceedings are a test case. The proceedings are being financed by HateAid, a non-profit organization that supports victims of digital violence online. Jun had also represented Green Party politician Renate Künast in a lawsuit against Facebook.
At the time, the online network was required to delete a false quote from Künast that had been circulating since 2015, as well as variations on it throughout the platform.Translated with [www.DeepL.com/Translator](http://www.DeepL.com/Translator) (free version)
