Noone wants this strike in my mental health team waiting line for people who hear voices and experience suicidal thoughts is months long. I only get to see patients I have assessed in August. I have patients awaiting meds review with psychiatrist that is due in February that I referred in September.
I have 15 years if mental health experience. Work 40h a week paid and 15 hours a week unpaid because there is not enough time in a day to finish notes, prep for next appointment and actually learn to keep skills up to date. As newly qualified band 4 that completed level 2 and 3 diploma followed by level 5 diploma I earn less than aldi wear house staff.
Please just pay us decent wage so we can employ and attract more people. I had seen staff leave to work as builders, delivery drivers and shop assistants. We are losing decades of experience because of it.
When I started care work 15 years ago I was earning £4 above min wage with zero experience now with 15 years of experience qualifications and countless training I earn £3.50 above min wage my junior co-workers are on min wage. Just let us do our job without worrying if we can put a heating on tonight or not that is all we ask for
If nurses weren’t more concerned about patients than they were about money, they wouldn’t be nurses. Striking means temporarily devastating their own income for a potential long-term gain, its not something most unions can do lightly.
I think they have only gotten to this point because the governmetn has been so goddamned slow with this cost of living crisis. I mean, we all watched the Tories spend weeks arguing and bickering, all to put Liz Truss in charge, while everyone was warning the membership that her economic policy would be a diaster and predicting she’d be out by Christmas. Time off to mourn the queen. Time off for the party conference. Time for another leadership election. Time not spent even pretending to dig the NHS out of the grave they spent 12 years digging for it.
Time to put the pressure directly onto the government.
The minute the government actually puts time and effort and negotiates in good faith, strikes will be a lot less likely. The government knows who can afford to lose a bit of money, and who doesn’t have a choice but to fight for what they can earn.
I hope, that if they do pause their strike action for spy talks, I really hope that the Gov don’t do what they did to the rail workers and give them a Terrible offer or refuse to make them an offer at the last minute. Wholly support this strike action.
Probably shouldn’t say this, but fuck it, nobody knows who I am.
Strike away. Public services are ground to the bone. We pick up the slack where MH teams can’t do it, so everyone loses out. Patients, staff, officers are all at breaking point. If you’re not getting what you need to get shit done, demand it.
Government will still need to bring in as many ‘skilled Labour’ legally providing ‘Work Permuts’ and Induction into UK from Commonwealth Countries., incl. Accommodate.
Their Salaries will be lower.
Contracts includes that they cannot strike.
Looking at what the Defense Force are earning (lower) than that of Ambulance drivers etc..
Firstly people are very grateful for the work carried out by the NHS workers.
But:
Gathering everyone else to strike against your Country at a time of another Crisis says much.
Adjustments in having to cut back on a certain ‘Lifestyle’, (from Private schools, clubs, Pubbing living like the Jones etc.. ),
There is no money.
Do they need an increase : yes. But there too is reality on both sides.
Government needs to back themselves up.
For now with holding the strikes is the right decision.
This kind of work is ‘Passion’ done from the heart.
When it becomes all about money, especially entering into this career because of how much it pays.
You lacked understanding from the begin ing.
The committed wouldn’t be able to live with themselves to see their patients not being attended too, or even passing on in extreme cases because of money.
So I hope both sides can reach a reasonable agreement.
Because frankly speaking, people get tired of the threats.
I posted yesterday I think the plan is starve them out.
These strikes will it end when the people doing them need the money. Someone said unite are paying 70 quid a day to strikers.
They can’t keep that up forever. The government will continue to refuse to do anything and attempt to ride it out.
Maggie did the same to the miners. Called the army in to cover.
Sounds a bit familiar sadly
They won’t get the pay rise they deserve, but hopefully 60 year old Roofer Alan when he finds out his hip replacement is cancelled due to the strikes… then has to wait another 9 months thinks twice about voting conservative again.
Its just frustrating the government keep insisting there’s nothing they can do about this, that its all down to this Independent Pay Review body, when its just simply not true, that that body only ever provides a *recommendation*, that Scotland have gone above their recommended increase and so do not have these strikes, and that the recommendation Westminster is offering for NHS England is based on an estimate from over 6 months ago before the mini-budget fiasco and all the other chaos since.
And I mean just jesus fucking christ man these are the people that got us through covid. How can we treat them like this after years of all that performative nonsense banging pots and shite to show our gratitude? We can show our gratitude by rewarding their service with a decent boost to their pay and maybe a little thank-you bonus.
All power to nurses. They got us through Covid and govt incompetence. They’ve *earned* a pay rise. Also I’d put them in charge of the NHS.
