Priti Patel’s new powers to push back Channel crossing boats breach human rights

  1. Wake me when one of these vicious bastards actually gets some kind of punishment for breaking the law.

This kind of thing should be instant dismissal as an mp.

  2. Has anyone ever seen a reflection of her in a mirror? does she cast a shadow?

…. I find it hard to believe that anyone with a pulse could be this much of a cold hearted ladder climber.

  3. Fun facts for all the racists who will no doubt come on here to peddle hate:

Displaced people do not have to claim asylum in the first safe country. This is a lie told to you by other racists.

Nevertheless, most refugees (86%) are living in the countries neighbouring the one they fled.

Asylum seekers in the UK are granted £5.66 per day to live on and aren’t allowed to work. They are not ‘economic migrants’, whatever the hell you think that means. Incidentally, this is less money than the French government gives out.

42% of displaced people across the world are children. These children are not ‘economic migrants’ either.

Last year 59% of asylum claims in the UK were initially rejected, which tells us the system is already tough.

39% of those rejected claims are overturned in the courts, which tells us that this tough system is often at fault.

  4. No they’re not. Those people are no longer seeking asylum they’re seeking benefits and they don’t deserve them until they can legally pay to cross with a visa and passport.

  5. Patel is one perfect example of a person who should never be given ***ANY*** power, watching her powers being extended is sinister and frightening.

  6. I can’t for the life of me understand how we can have the twin problems of a major labour crisis in unskilled roles and also a huge army of largely unskilled labour *trying* to get here.

It’s not just me, right? It seems like *if we really try* we might be able to resolve these problems somehow.

  7. honest question – should they not stay in France? Like as a refugee or asylum seeker you are required to stop in the nearest safe country, else you simply become a normal migrant, who I have no issue with refusing or accepting on a case by case basis.

Actually, should they even have made it to France?

  8. Tories dont give a shit about the human rights of other people unless they benefit them though. So its on brand for Tories.

  9. I grew up in a hotel that housed asylum seekers. My mum worked there and most nights I’d even just stay at the hotel.

Probably the fondest times of my life were spent there, I loved the people, generally some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met.

Here’s the thing, most of them (there were probably about 200 people living there) spoke English, even if it was just a little even as a child I could communicate with most of them. Now why the hell would these people stay in a country like France when they probably do not speak a single word of French. Clearly being able to communicate, even basically is super important if you’re finding somewhere to get asylum.

  10. Absolutely brilliant Priti, well done girl. As home secretary your only doing your job, the first duty of any government is the protection of the public. Anything that reduces the chances of our children being murdered on a night out has to be applauded.
