  1. Such an awfully cynical name… Totally intentional bombing of civilians. Always is horrible no matter who does it.

  2. I am currently reading German novel “Der Trümmermörder” by Cay Rademacher. The action of the book take place in 1947 in Hamburg and they are still clearing the ruins. Viewing this picture, it’s not hard to understand why.

  3. >”The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.”

  4. I love how the OP differentiates “aeroplanes” and “planes”. It reads so much like a shitty propaganda post its unreal.

  5. Of course it does not change how terrible those bombing were, but is it possible that this photo was taken maybe years after the war? It just seems strange that all the trees look undamaged? Or am I missing something? Bombs do not just fall on houses?

  6. Im am going to say it. From a military viewpoint this is the best option the Allies had. The siege of a city can last for months and they are way too deadly. Think about Stalingrad or some more similar cities that were taken by the soviets like Budapest, Berlin. A week long bombing campaign can destroy basicly evrything that is hard to capture. Think about what the russians did to Sieverodonetsk or Mariupol.

  7. My town in Italy has been almost razed by the Allies. When the germans ran away, they blew up what was remaining. So, in the end, we can blame everyone for destroying it
