Burgers and coats: county lines gangs exploit hardship to recruit UK kids | County lines

  1. It’s no different to how gangs have always operated. They promise material wealth and offer a sense of belonging a lot of these kids don’t feel from society as a whole. Their methods are nothing new, all that is changed is what they are having the kids do once they join the gang. It’s the same old story and nothing will change until we tackle poverty, something we have known since at least Victorian times, and we take away the gangs’ power by decriminalising drug usage.

  2. why are they called “county line gangs” when the county lines dont work the same way in the uk as they do in the usa ?

  3. This is grooming and should be treated as such. People above a certain age who commit crimes while with much younger people and people who groom young kids to join gangs should be put on a grooming register. Treat them like peadophiles. Put restrictions on how close they can be to schools and ban them from hanging around with young children (that aren’t relatives). There are probably quite a few problems with doing this, but maybe something similar could be introduced.
