People need to factor in the cost of childcare when deciding if it’s feasible to work and have children. Nobody can have it all. Kids or a vibrant career for both parents doesn’t exist unless you have money for staff.
Just live on one income and raise your kids yourself if you’re only making £2 a day after childcare. Surely transportation to and from work, lunch and taxes means she’s coming out at a loss rather than up £2.
Why is only her salary used, surely the nursery is paid as a joint expense by both parents?
This is not a surprise to parents. My wife and I were in the same situation, she’d have been paying to go to work.
Just one of the disadvantages of having a relatively low paid job in London and a multi zone commute
While we could have made it work we swallowed our pride and moved in with her parents. Covering utilities and food bills and getting a cleaner still worked out better
Women are to blame for this, feminist women who are career orientated changed the game making the currency invaluable and making 2 working parents the norm. The classic days of a man being able to afford taking care of a family with one salary was killed off soon as you were competing to buy a house on people on dual salaries. No wonder no one has kids anymore and we need immigration to make up for an aging population. No wonder statistically parents are more overworked and depressed.
I don’t get why they make parents go to work just for them to have to pay for someone else to take care of their children. Seems wrong. But yeah, tories….
I’ve still yet never been able to find a good reason to have a child in this country.
I am fortunate that my job is really flexible and only requires me to be in once a week, hence why I have not left the job, I want to spend time with my family when I have one and also it would also be financially better. A few of my friends who have families are really struggling with one child, let alone having more.
Quite curious to know why the article very deliberately chose to skirt what her husband actually does for a job.
First of all I’d like to thank the lockdowners for their amazing work. Secondly there should be tax cuts for couples with children.
This was common place 20 years ago – my wife and I were in the same boat! This is hardly new news.
She makes money… Lucky her. 10 years ago I had 2 in nursery and was paying £112 per day, and bringing home £70 per day, and the 30 hours free from age 2 didn’t exist, it was something like 10 hours free from age 3
Why is she bothering working overtime for 2 quid take ur kid on a walk pick up some coins u fine on the floor and forget the childcare while making at least 50p more profit
Sorry but you can’t have it all. Not unless you have a really high paid job.
But it is what, on general, will happen. Women will stay at home, and lose the ability to progress their careers.
If you think otherwise, then you clearly think that our dealing with sexism has progressed an awful lot further than I do.
Just think about the fact the women still earn less than mean, still under represent in top position and honestly ask yourself; who will end up staying at home.
Edit: Hi u/Fluffy_Cow_ need to respond to you wil this as well. It’s basically the same reply. Cheers!

> Who said anything about forcing them?
